    Best Puppy food?

The lady I'm getting the puppy from is not a breeder, she's a pet owner. I know her through online, and she's in BC The puppy will be sent with food, and I will choose something permanent to feed him upon arrival Originally, she planning a trip to Ontario to visit her sister in July, and...

    Best Puppy food?

They were Vetted on Tuesday. I'm honestly not that worried- She probably does the same thing I do. Buys the bag the vet says to buy, and dumps it in the food bin for storage. The vet knows which exactly which one I need when I need more. I was thinking along the lines of Wellness Core, I...

    Best Puppy food?

My daughter has been waiting for weeks, and it's nearly time. July 4/5th is the expected arrival date for the puppy Apollo, a Chesakepe bay/Bernese Mountain dog mix. I need to decide on a food for him. The breeder is unsure exactly what she's feeding him...she says Puppy chow blended with her...

    Doggy brags

It really is!! Right now, Bob(Tiko's owner and the one Tiko is protecting) is in for cardiac care, so his son lets him out back. He's not barking as much, because the son doesn't need defending. This is the perfect time for Tiko and Shamas to practice living next door to each other. Shamas...

    Doggy brags

Shamas ignored Tiko for the first time ever. we had him out whilst we BBQ'd and I heard the next door open...I started crooning "good boy, be a good boy" at Shamas, and leaned down to be ready with a hand on his collar. He had a dental bone at the time, and put all of his excitement into the...

    Doggy brags

That's really good of her! I usually leash Shamas when workmen come in, so he can watch from a safe distance. I think he'd have a meltdown if I left him in another room! On a leash though, he's quietly observant and just plays shy if they try to get close.

How is social distancing Affecting your dog?

On the Shamas front, there has been Zero dog interaction since March. At this point, even TIKO is starting to look like a viable option for a chat, and Shamas is really only showing excitement when he sees him through the fence now. I've taught him "break away" for if he gets The Stare, but...

Is this really how much a labrador puppy costs?

It really is. I saw an ad for a 5 year old lab for $500 Up to date on all her vetting, well socialised, etc...a family dog. I can only assume the family can't afford her in the COVID situation....

Is this really how much a labrador puppy costs?

Here they average 1200-2400 a puppy (All breeds) with papers in the 2400 range Used to be 800-1600, when Cammy and Charly were bought. Those are retreivers. Charly was show quality, and 1400 Litters are all spoken for, and my theory is that with so many wanting puppies, breeders have raised...

    Muzzle/Noseband for Shamas?

Thanks for the input everyone. I know I'm probably overthinking things- I know how Shamas is with the cats, he gets excited, and they don't appreciate his exuberance. Then again, they are cats..a puppy might actually LIKE having toys shoved in it's face?? I plan to have the puppy in a playpen...

    Nerf ball gun

Oh, I've been eyeing those. I finally got around to buying a Chuckit. Also brilliant. Not as good as a gun though :)

    Muzzle/Noseband for Shamas?

I'm thinking that with the new puppy coming in about 6 weeks, now might be a good time to muzzle-train Shamas. I'm not concerned about potential aggression, but Shamas does get excited and mouthy...I'd like that safety measure in place so he doesn't nip the puppy. Matt is older, and "tells"...

    Aspen got attacked

It sounds like this Benny needs to get accustomed to wearing a muzzle until he can learn to interact with dogs without using teeth. Meanwhile, how is Aspen doing? No problems with other dogs? As long as he comes out of this his old self, Benny is your sisters problem...though having a rescued...

    Aspen got attacked

My dad's dog took Shamas's face in his mouth once too. Being a normally defensive dog, I expected trouble, but he wasn't bothered because he saw Toby take verbal correction for his outburst, and he was praised for his calm. We did seperate the dogs, and we do always keep Shamas from going into...

How is social distancing Affecting your dog?

My dad says Chloe can't understand why she's not allowed to make friends--she's usually allowed to wander off-leash and mingle. Now, even when they come up to walk with Shamas, the dogs aren't allowed to touch...

How is social distancing Affecting your dog?

Personally, I'm seeing improvement in Shamas- he's becoming LESS reactive, as dogs move away from him, and he no longer feels the need to scare them off by acting out. His threshold is shortening, as he finds dogs less threatening. But I wonder about friendly dogs? How is this affecting them?

Help! I'm at my wits end

I'll get some of the dark screen meant for porch privacy. Yes, barking results in distance being created- because my response is to bring him inside. I've been working on teaching him "break away" which is the command that I use if I catch him staring that way for three seconds or more...

Help! I'm at my wits end

Sorry, I've been busy with work Yes, it's strictly reactive. He;ll be minding his own business, and TIKO will bark at the top of his lungs...no matter where Shamas is, he wil stop what he is doing, and run back and forth across the house, barking. Tiko upsets him. Tiko is another rescue from an...

Help! I'm at my wits end

TIKO, the chihuaha next door, with whom there is a longstanding rivalry...has learned that if he barks from anywhere on his property, Shamas will bark back. this is not friendly, "hey, how ya doin?" barking...it's two dogs claiming territory through house walls. Standing on hind legs, barking at...
