A bridge too far?

Oh drat. They are now doing the bridge on the trails I use the most, closest to my house. Oh well. As you can see, it’s mainly for show. There is a little run-off trickle of water underneath which is definitely jumpable except in spring when the snow melts. But of course in the winter with a couple feet of snow, it’s hard to walk places where there isn’t an established path. But hopefully the bridge will be covered enough at that point to make it passable!

This is a temporary bridge over our foundation trench, using our old decking. It's incredibly stable, but you can see the gaps in it. Bear obviously doesn't even need it cos he leaps the gaps and jumps in and out of the trench anyway, showing off. If he isn't in our neighbours garden 🤦🏼‍♀️. Monty went across it first time with just a little encouragement, no treats needed, and then used it a couple more times. Great I thought, he is ok with it. Just taken them out for a post dinner toilet stop and he refuses to use it. Until Bear almost runs into the back of him and pushes him across. Coming back has taken us ten minutes to coax with treats.
Oh well, only a few days.
Bear in the trench, followed by Monty making it back onto the house , poor thing. IMG_20210922_130529853.jpgIMG_20210922_125915538_HDR.jpg

We have a few like that - the dog goes round and the human goes over.

Riddle me this, dear peeps! In a series of events which I will have to detail elsewhere, today we ended up tramping around through a field and came across this Texas cattle gate (that’s what we call these here). They are meant to stop cattle escaping through a gap in the fence along a road. The car can cross this, but cows will not.

It’s hard to tell from the pic but there’s probably 6” from the metal bars to the ground below.
Simba takes one look at this, he hesitates a second, and then crosses, putting his front feet on the bars. Of course his back feet got mixed up and he did slip through a bit. But no prob, he just kept going.
Ypu could have knocked me over with a feather, especially since we had to quickly turn around and go back over it. Again, he set out with nary a worry. His back feet fell through a couple times again but he had no concern about it at all.
Tell me why he can sail across this with hardly a pause but the other bridge is an evil invention that must not be touched???

It's a labrador thing. Maxx will scamper up and down all the steps on our outside decks except one lot. He stands at the top and cries until one of us goes up and walks him down. Sometimes. Not always. Just when he remembers I guess. There is very little difference in size or shape to the others. We can't figure it out either!

It’s just so weird to me!! It could be something about being able to see more of the ground below, perhaps? Who knows! 🤷‍♀️
Yes, maybe it looks safer than it is, although our cattle grids usually have a deeper space between the grid and the ground beneath.
