A week at the coast

We have just returned from a week at Sea Palling on the east coast in Norfolk. We travelled there last Saturday before Boris made his lockdown announcement. We considered returning home Wednesday but read we could complete our holiday as long as we abided by lockdown rules there. So we did a bit of travelling around before Thursday, then spent the last few days doing our daily exercise on the beach and staying ‘home’. Home was a gorgeous cosy thatched cottage literally 2 minutes walk to the most fabulous beach. We had arranged a MLF meet up there on the Thursday with Stephanie @SteffiS and Sharon @Shaz82 and their partners. Sadly because of the restrictions we had to cancel it. Such a shame as the weather was perfect and the walk I had in mind which we did on our own anyway was fabulous. Never mind there will be other times.

The first part of the week, the weather wasn’t great - wet and windy but from Wednesday onwards it was beautiful. It was good to get away although there were a few hairy days when my whole family were getting tested for Covid-19 and one granddaughter (my son’s daughter) tested positive. I couldn’t have done anything even if I’d been home as they are isolating. As I can’t see them, I feel pretty useless but my daughter (who tested negative) has stepped up to the plate and is shopping for them and exercising their dog. I shall take him out tomorrow. The American elections have had me on tenterhooks although I have tried to keep clear a bit of news/media.

Red was very happy. If she had her daily walk/run/sniff on the beach, she was mega chilled in the cottage.

Lovely photos! I live in Norfolk and love the variety of beaches along the coast. (I almost went to Holkham beach this morning, hoping to tire Jess out before another long night of fireworks).

Did Red react to the seals at all? I always avoid Blakeney & Horsey Gap as worry that mine might chase the seals. Perhaps I should give them more credit!

Did Red react to the seals at all? I always avoid Blakeney & Horsey Gap as worry that mine might chase the seals. Perhaps I should give them more credit!

The beautiful seals at Horsey are the most wonderful sight. We walked from Sea Palling down to Horsey Gap twice. The first time there were hundreds of seals on the beach. We could see the seals as we walked down the beach and put Red on lead well before we got anywhere near them. We stood on the concrete steps to quietly observe and photograph. Red showed absolutely no interest in them at all, she just sat by us. I can see that people and dogs could be an issue but the few people we saw were very respectful which was good to see.

Holkham beach @Jessica is my favourite place and we have gone there frequently (it’s 90 minutes from home) over the years but Sea Palling beach (two and a half hours from home) comes second. I envy you living close to beaches.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a real log burner but a Dimplex which was instant and very effective.

Definitely. I actually felt really safe there as there were very few people. Even in Cromer where it was busier the day before lockdown, loads of people wore masks even outside. We ate out twice during the week and both places had excellent COVID procedures in place
