ALEX, the Bodeguero cross

It's great Alex has settled in to your gang so well like he had always belonged, which he does now. Is Amber still in love or has she got over her crush and is leaving the new boy alone ?.

Alex has discovered Kong Wubbas. He loves them with a passion! I had to buy some more since he wants them so badly and Amber was a bit miffed when he ran off with hers.
I am now convinced he has pointer pants. He will try to chase rabbits as if they are all he was ever born for and deer are just a heavenly sport. I think he might be on his long line for a while.
We had an incident this morning with the cats. Alex finally got fed with being hissed at and chased the pair of them out of the house. I had already put a baby gate across the cat's favourite room so they could retreat there if they want to but they seem to think it is great fun to hiss at him and watch him shy away.
The resource guarding has escalated somewhat. It is understandable but undesirable. I am having to work quite hard with him on this.
All that being said, he is an absolute joy to have around and Amber is totally smitten with him. She still follows him around and is trying to teach him to play with her. He has no concept of playing with another dog so he just looks bewildered most of the time but I think it will come.
His recall is coming along nicely. He does get distracted by rabbits and other wildlife but cheese seems to win out in the end. :) He adores cheese.
My biggest surprise has been how Bear has taken to Alex. When I woke up this morning they were curled up together. Now Bear is the original Grumpy Old Man and has often had trouble with new dogs coming to the house. Sometimes quite aggressively. This time he just took to Alex like a long lost friend. I am completely shocked.
Sorry these posts are quite long.

I think this is a really good start for Alex. As for the not knowing how to play, Charlie didn't have a clue at 9 months when he came to us. He had been pushed from pillar to post and had never learned. Hattie soon put that right and they in time were and still are as mad as hatters when they get going :D I'm sure your lovely dogs will show him. Lovely read so happy for you all xxx :)

Such a lovely story, so happy Alex has got to his forever home, and that you and the other dogs love him! (The cats will come around in time...)

Love long posts :) Re the resource guarding, teach him to swop for something else. I remember when my 4 month old Lab was confined to his crate from that age for a whole month (broken elbow) and I gave him a bone and he became a snarling beast, I frantically phoned my friend who is a behaviourist and she said, just offer him something else and it worked. I guess he has never had anything of his own before and anything which did come his way had to be guarded from the other dogs as it was so precious to him.
