Any tips will be treasured

Just a quick techie note: when you upload pictures, they show up as thumbnails at the bottom of your post by default. But we like to see the full versions because PUPPIES!! So once you’ve uploaded, you’ll see there’s a little bit that says something like “Insert all as” and then “Thumbnails” or “Full images”. Click on the “Full images” option and they’ll show up nice and big for us :)
Thank you 😊

Labradors are full of love, life and joy. What some people might see as naughty is just their way of exuberantly celebrating life. When training them you will need patience in spades but if you make it fun for them you will reap the rewards for their entire lives. Be consistent and always positive with them. Never set them up to fail. Keep the training sessions short and always end on a win. Always have pockets full of treats as labs are led by their stomachs.
During adolescence they can seem as if they are trying to upset you or make you mad. They are not. Like human teenagers they are just trying to find their place in their world. This is where consistency pays off. Shouting or getting upset will just make the situation worse.
Sometimes you will have to go back to basics with recall, sit, down etc. Always reward their good behaviour and never punish their "bad" behaviour.
Stanley is just gorgeous and clearly loves you deeply. It is great to have both of you with us. :)

Lovely - May I quote you?

Gosh, I remember the days when Homer used to jump up at me with his paws at my shoulders and his head the same height as mine. Now at six he’s a lot calmer but still loves to steal socks.

I’m not sure if you are doing this but regular training classes helped a lot with Homer. First we tried agility where he really had to work hard at focussing and following instructions and used up a lot of energy too. Then we started the kennel club good citizen awards. We worked through the tasks at our own pace until we were ready for the test.

Hi from Hunter my wonderful adolescent 15 month chocolate source of mischief, love, numnuts and shame! All good advice is given here. It does seem like hard work but it does payoff. I am slowly starting to see the fruits of my hard work. Labbie Love is unique! Welcome to this wonderful forum!

Hi
New to this forum and new Labrador owner,I’m really struggling with obedience on walks and in the house.
He is only 7 months old so is very excitable.
I need help with him jumping up constantly, biting everything, pulling on the lead, eating everything in sight while out on walks, any tips would be greatly received.thanks
Hello Jo anne, so glad you found us! It was me who recommended that you join us all here (unless it's just coincidence and you're another Jo anne from West Yorkshire with a 7 month yellow Lab!) Stanley is very handsome, absolutely gorgeous! You really will find loads of help and support here. Welcome from little Joy and me!:tail:

Hi,14 months and still hard??
We didn't do the right thing as a puppy, nor even now so don't fret! My OH is home every day and therefore does most of the training and he is not consistent. As a puppy he did things his way and eventually he realised that when I did the training I was actually getting the results and he eventually changed....but Maxx was already close to adolescence so now we have given ourselves a bigger challenge.
