Bit worried about Poppy

That looks very much like something that Willow does once in a blue moon. I always thought of it as what people call "reverse sneezing". It upsets her at the time, she seems to be having difficulty catching her breath and it sounds just like that. It can last a couple of minutes and then she's fine afterwards. I rub her tummy and throat if it happens. I have no idea if it helps, but she seems to appreciate the touch anyway.

Oh that's interesting! Like Willow, Poppy found it quite distressing - she had two episodes this morning; the second time I filmed it and decided I had to take her to the vet. She had another episode during the day after seeing the vet and didn't want to go out for a walk at lunchtime. She feels much better this evening though, obviously the meds are kicking in.

It looks to me to be very like 'reverse sneezing' as @snowbunny mentions above. One of my GSPs used to do it a lot, quite unnerving, I used to stroke her throat and that seemed to help, it was distressing for her. However, it isn't dangerous.

Riley's soft pallette goes a bit funny from time to time and it sounds like he's struggling to breathe. He generally looks less than thrilled but not super stressed and it wears off after a bit. It might be something similar?

Kipper does reverse sneezing- he did it in the vets when he was ~3 months and she said it’s very common, her labs do it and nothing to worry about. I think his must be fairly mild as it doesn’t distress him as such, but I always say ‘oh dear!’ Or ‘bless you’ and he seems to appreciate it.

Poor Poppy, hope she’s better today. My two sometimes have ‘reverse sneezing’ attacks too, Wispa more than Tuppence, but are soon back to normal afterwards.

You know what - I think you guys may be right and this is reverse sneezing!!!! Why didn't my vet recognize that? Hmmm... Well, I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm a bit irritated that she was so quick to give antibiotics and cortisone if not necessary... On the other hand, Pops did feel unwell yesterday, and did not want to go out for her lunchtime walk, so maybe she really did have a cold or laryngitis...

Why didn't my vet recognize that? Hmmm...

I think we were quite lucky that the vet we saw (for something else) mentioned it in passing and seemed quite confident/comfortable with volunteering advice on it being reverse sneezing. There's another vet we see who I suspect would have wanted to give injections etc. so sometimes it's down to the individual, how experienced they are etc.. And like you say, it might have been a cold or similar. How is she today?

She seems much better, thank you all! Fingers crossed the weird sneezing/coughing/choking doesn't come back!

It did also occur to me - OH is an artist, and the day before was treating a new palette he had just made with linseed oil. Not that linseed oil is poisonous, but it does smell very strong, and Poppy started the sneezing/wheezing/choking after I got up and opened the door to his studio... At any rate, I have asked him only to use that out in the garage or the garden in future, in case she had a reaction to it.

I was spraying black paint on my Woodburner a few days ago, I put Cassie in the kitchen next door behind baby gate and had doors and windows opened, she started sneezing immediately although I thought she was far enough away she clearly wasn't, obviously much more sensitive to it, than I thought.

When we trim a tree in our garden my oh and Finn starts sneezing and Finn immediately makes those strange noises. I let him drink water then for I think the dust in his throat is irritating him. I only gave him once anti histamine because it didn’t get better and my oh needed also anti histamine. He improved after the intake
