Cottage cheese?

Shamas has been having his antibiotics dipped in cream cheese for 2 weeks now. He comes every morning and night to get them. Now that the pills are done, I was considering maintaining the routine, only swapping the treat to something that will provide probiotics...like cottage cheese or yogurt.

For those of you who don't rely on kibble and suppliments to provide your dogs needs...what's the best source for gut health?

I don't know whether there is any benefits using stuff that claims to be good for gut health in dogs. However I have a routine for my two. Their Kongs are dipped in 10% fat Greek yoghurt, ( it's thicker than normal yoghurts so doesn't drip as much) I buy a couple of big tubs a week and dip the Kongs in the yoghurt pot. To cut down the mess the kong then gets put in a plastic dish.
You would need to buy live yoghurt, it won't do any harm but a dogs stomach is high acidity. I've never seen any studies that actually prove that probiotics for dogs are useful.

I use cottage cheese sometimes for kongs and lickit mat, as well as plain yogurt but as a treat, not for any real gut health reasons. I used a powder probiotic - started with Purina fortiflora for 2 months, then moved to Adored Beast products (Gut Soothe at first) - all to build up gut health post surgery and anti-biotics. I used probiotic powders for around 9 months and now not at all. I did try daily kefir, but it caused diarrhea so that didn't work.
