Doggy brags

Dear little Otter Pothead brag! We have Loki to stay for a couple of days, a lovely, very energetic boy who does find it hard to relax, he finds kennels a bit hard going so he stays with us now. Otter LOVES him! So I thought I work a little on boundary training, using Loki as distraction. The bed is her "mat" in this instance, so I am rewarding her quietly for staying in place. We worked on this for 4 mins, Loki calmed right down with feeding, while Otter stays glued to her bed. :inlove:

Eventually I hope to pair this behaviour with when visitors arrive, we are a long way off yet, but one day.

A one min clip...

Monty rarely makes an appearance on this thread. But he was amazing just now, I was stripping a cooked chicken for bits for his dinner tonight, he was right underneath me, naturally 😁
I clumsily dropped a whole drumstick almost right into his mouth, still covered in meat.
OH was there and we both sort of shrieked leave it, I went in prepared to wrestle out of his mouth but he just dropped it!!! No way!!! He got a ton of chicken meat as a reward. Thinking about it I should have waved the meat in front of his nose, as a bribe but the drop was almost instant. I'm gobsmacked, he is such a greedy thief normally.

What a good boy Monty :inlove:

Zero chance with Maxx :hmm:

We took Chewie to a park today where we previously hadn't let him off lead as it is quite bustling- there is a major sports field, kids clubs, mother's groups, a cafe and bowling club, lots of cyclists and runners. Well today we let him off lead and he didn't do a single dodgy thing, even when a large group of cricket kids walked past and one of them kicked a tennis ball in our direction.

He did however get the zoomies because we took his new, extra special Kong ball that he adores. So cute.

Oh and he can also be left home with a line full of washing and nothing bad happens!

We had some Sparkies here today doing some work. Both girls where excellent and not going out the front door that had to be open at times.
However this arvo whilst I was helping for 5ish min, I asked one of them to make sure the door and gate where shut. Yes all good I was told.
Then get this feeling of Honey is not here looking to help as she normally does...so go and look for her inside nothing.
See gate open so grab whistle stand in hall and blow next minute Honey appears ( so does Vanilla from her sleep).

No idea where she had gone, but glad she came back quickly (especially as just coming to the end of her season).

And that is without to much training, time to step the training up now...has been a bit lacking with her last few months due to personal issues....

I had a friend stay for a bit to sit with our dogs while we both were working on a shoot. I have never left Otter for more than 3 hours, and never had anyone enter the house without one of us being here. I was terribly nervous, and left copious notes for my friend. She is lovely, and Otter has met her a couple of times. Even so I was a bit apprehensive.
Otter did really well, a little bit jumpy and barky at first, but I would have been more worried if she wasn't! She settled really well, and even allowed my friend to stroke her gently...wowzers! Charlotte was very impressed how far we have come since her last visit. We are both absolutely thrilled!

Two things today with Cupar to brag about but it's also a brag on my own behalf, ( this is something I grew up being told not to do).

I'm extremely proud of Cupar but also extremely proud of myself for having trained these things.

First was coming back from our walk, we walk into the sheep field, they're ALL at the top of the footpath. I had the squeezey cheese at the ready, walked on with Cupar on lead (NO dogmatic) and talked to Cupar loudly to see if the sheep would disperse, they didn't, they waited until we were nearly walking through them and then they RAN, all of them, my gorgeous boy continued to look at sheep, look back at me and took his cheese. If he had decided to chase, I would have been dragged down the field with him but he remained calm the entire time they were running, now to get this reaction with dogs.
The second brag, some of you may be sceptical about, if someone had told me this before Cupar I wouldn't believe it.
I made myself a cup of coffee and took two biscuits, sat one of the biscuits on the coffee table, not thinking walked out the room and when I came back Cupar was standing looking at it, I did not shout just said quietly, oh what a good boy and walked back to the kitchen, he ran after me and sat in front of the fridge( all rewards come from the fridge), he was given a piece of pheasant and mega praise.
If I had stayed away longer he may have eaten it, Cassie wouldn't have looked, she would have seen an opportunity but on getting Cupar as a pup, not stealing food was a high priority to me and I worked so hard on his leave and I really believe it's paid off.

Todays brag from me , I took the dogs to a wood I havent been to for ages , it is highly scented with deer , the very woods where Reubs got stuck behind the deer fence last summer . I took his beloved kong on a rope and with trepidation , let him off lead whereupon he ran back and forth with the kong , kept dropping it for me to chuck , all going well . I then removed it into my bag and waited with baited breath , half expecting his run off trail into the deep wood ,he didnt, he actually didnt  He looked a couple of times , so I called him up , he had a bit of chicken and off we went again , so happy with him , for now because tomorrow is another day, but never mind , the lad done well

There is SO much snow fallen over the last couple of days, and it is ridiculously heavy. This means we can't actually walk far; it's just too difficult physically, and I worry about the dogs hurting themselves by twisting awkwardly. Not to mention Ginny sinking!!
Anyway, we went out this evening, carrying our snowshoes up the road until we got to the mountain. As we were putting them on, I could see two kids playing just over the brow, about twenty metres away. Squidge went to run to introduce herself, but I called her and she came back and sat, waiting with us, while we got into our snowshoes. I let the twins with J as I walked towards them, to see if they had a dog I couldn't see. As soon as I could, I called out and asked. The answer was no, and the youngest child called out to Squidge, at which point I told her she could go and say hi. The child (about 12 years) fell to the ground in delight, and rolled around with the chocolate monster, who was trying to thoroughly lick her ears. I was so super proud, because this time last year, she wouldn't have managed at all to sit still and wait while children were being so exciting so close.
W&S came and said hi, too - Willow gave a single quick bark, but then decided they weren't too scary after all - and I thought how far they've come when I just don't have to worry about them anymore.

They were building an igloo the other side of the rise. The dogs all went and investigated, Squidge took a couple of bites out of it, and then we went on our way; delighted children and happy dogs.

Did you really just write a post where neither you nor your dogs took a dislike to children??:cwl:
