So pleased with my pooch today. It was time for the yearly dreaded vet visit. As it happens his usual vet (our good friend) was gone so we had a lovely young woman vet. Simba went in happily, as he always does, and was happy to see her. She suggested that she do the exam in the back room, a more open space. We went back there and Simba was really good. No growling. No muzzle (!). The vet tech fed treats while the vet gave the poke. He hardly reacted at all except for the very end when the vet tech was a little slow with the treat stream and Simba turned and air-snapped at the vet. But honestly, this was the best visit he’s ever had, and I was so proud of him.
I had never considered before that part of his fear reaction at previous visits was that he felt cornered in that little exam room! Which makes total sense! I had thought it was the handling, the needles, etc. But he was a different dog in the more open space.

Can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that before!!
