Echo - Guide Dog

Happy birthday Echo! One year old today. 🐾💕💕

He’s a lovely, gentle giant. So friendly and loving. He’s absolutely brilliant at his work and loves it.

He’s very ‘frisky’ at the moment and is off to get his purses emptied a week on Thursday, which will take a weight off his mind! 😉

He’s sitting on the grass next to our favourite reservoir with a big smile on his face - he loves his free runs!

How will he get free runs when he lives with a blind person?

He will wear bells, which is why his recall needs to be 110%. :)

Here is Fable, my friend’s Guide Dog with her bells on. The second photo is Fable with two other guide dogs, all wearIng their bells.

All three work hard taking their owners to work every day and behaving beautifully at work. They deserve to play as well. My friend takes Fable for a quick run in the park every day on the way home from work and plenty of free runs at the weekends and some evenings.

I know many guide dog owners - all make sure their dogs get plenty of play to balance the work. GDs insist they are ‘dogs first’. I wouldn’t volunteer for them if they didn’t 🐾🙂

Echo will be with his owner 24/7 - never left home alone. I think it’s a great life for any dog. He loves his work and using his brain, I think they all do - they don’t work if they don’t want to. It will be his choice, if he chooses not to he’ll be coming back to me! 🐾💕

He didn’t have a great night, he barked a couple of woofs every hour then settled again each time, so I didn’t go downstairs to him. I have a camera in the utility room where he sleeps. I spent a lot more time watching him than sleeping! He didn‘t mess with the body suit at all, so that’s good. I’m keeping it off during the day to get the air to the wound - which looks very neat. No bruising. I remember Spencer, Keir and Bruce had a lot of bruising - so that’s good for Echo.

He didn’t cry from the anaesthetic like some of the other pups have done, so that was a blessing - it’s such a mournful cry! He keeps coming and putting his big head on my knee. 🥰

He woofed for the toilet (it’s a different woof to the other woof!) at 4am so after that I slept in the lounge with him.

So we are both quite tired now. 💤 💤
