Emergency Vet for Reuben

Oh Reuben, what an egg. I'll have my fingers crossed for the Monday bloods, but I'm sure he'll be fine. Pretty sure that all of our dogs have eaten something potentially dangerous at some point, it's what they do.

Absolutely....my first Labrador ate a whole heap of macadamia nuts one time. They are really toxic to dogs. It set off a big panic, but he ended up being totally fine. All the nuts came out unharmed too

Yes, hang in there Kate. Simba has a long unsupervised encounter with cocoa powder...OH came home to find it scattered all over the house. He was extremely wired for about 2 days but suffered no ill effects. And then there was the huge amount of grapes he ate off the vine...

At any rate, give your boy snuggles and please don’t beat yourself up.:hug:

Bless him, he was so cuddly during the night , I " slept " in the sitting room with him in case he was sick again , but he wasn't . I had to wake him at three this morning to give him the charcoal on some Chappie, which he was delighted about , all waggy tailed at this nocturnal meal ! He is asleep again, on the sofa next to me on a pile of pillows . He can have his normal food today but also the dreaded charcoal which is the messiest stuff, but he licks it up like its manna from heaven . He is quiet, which is understandable , after the horrors of yesterday , but the tail still wags non stop bless his heart . Bloods tomorrow and fingers crossed they will be normal , the Vet did tell us not to bank on it as it can take a few days for the red cell count to drop , but I`m trying not to think down that line . Thank you for your lovely messages xxxx

Oh Kate I just caught up. It can happen to all of us! You acted fast and got him to a vet ASAP. Sorry you had a tough night and an awful day. Sending lots of love and positive vibes and fingers crossed the blood results are good. Xx

@kateincornwall Oh Kate I'm so sorry I missed this yesterday. I'm glad to read Reuban had a good night, seems ok this morning and is happy to eat. I can imagine how worried you are and the panic you must have had yesterday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow I hope so much his bloods are normal. I have a confession which might make you feel a little bit better. Back when murphy was young I had no idea about which foods were poisonous. I'd give him bits of chocolate, chocolate biscuit, sultanas, all the stuff now I'd panic if my dogs ate. When we went to my grandparents I even used to sit feeding murphy grapes !!! He never came to any harm and loved it. I think sometimes the more we know the worse it is. Ignorance is bliss and all that. I know your blaming yourself but don't. You found the garlic and took action straight away. If he'd eaten it all you'd be none the wiser and he'd still probably have been fine. Good luck tomorrow. :fingers:

So pleased you had a good night of cuddles, if not much sleep (this would sound dodgy if it wasn’t on this forum!) - long may normality continue. I know you won’t relax properly until the last bloods are taken and the vet’s happy, but take it day by day xxx

Sounds like Reuben is on the mend. Glad you had a good night sleep and Reuben enjoyed his walk. Sure those tests will come back clear (Fingers crossed)
