I would just like to add to your lesson of never assume with a puppy if I may. My two are 8 I can still never assume and I can still never leave anything at gettable height.

Good news that it's all clear and now you can put it out of your mind. I'm with @SwampDonkey , this stuff happens and is part of normal puppyhood. All's well that ends well!

Just to echo @Jennifer, though, my two aren’t really counter surfers either, yet a couple of months ago while I was out Tuppence took and tore up a letter that had been on the kitchen worktop for several days, in an area where there isn’t any food preparation. (I think it was Tuppy - she looked guilty, Wispa didn’t, but then Wispa may have perfected her acting skills!) Never trust a lab!
