Feeding whilst we wait for tooth extration

It took ages to hear back about the Root canal, and finally after we pushed the issue, we learned that we wouldn't be able to do it. SO Shamas is booked for Extraction instead. Trouble is, after his tooth being broken for so long, he's feeling sore, and is losing his appetite. He's off his kibble, and is picky about his canned food as well.

Does anyone have ideas for feeding him? recipes for meals? Doggy soup? This morning he looked at his bowl and went back to bed.

Neither vet has suggested pain meds, but I'm thinking of taking him in to get some of my own accord...

I thought about that, but he's not taking it. seems to just be off his food this morning. I might put some in his old bowls at lunch.....I got him a raised set, thinking if he didn't drop his head, eating might not hurt as much....perhaps he's not keen on it

Is he on anti biotics? If he isn't he needs to be. They can loose their appetite due to infection. You can make porridge out of dried food by just adding water. Any soft tinned food but warmed. I suspect being in pain from having a broken tooth for so long to he very depressing him or he has an appointment infection. I lost my much loved Moo due to complications from a broken tooth and have suffered sepsis from a tooth infection which has left me with perminant heart damage. I would get this tooth out ASAP. It's a very serious thing and it needs to be tackled in a timely fashion.

He is not, but I insisted on booking him for bloodwork because I'm worried that that tooth being exposed will become infected. He saw the vet only a few days ago, and they weren't worried, but I'm not willing to let him undergo anesthesia without bloodwork and antibiotics a week in advance. Not doing that is how I lost my first cat during a routine cleaning.

This is far too long for Shamas to be in pain. Tooth pain is the worst kind of pain and will put him off his food. I think you must insist your vet prescribe AB's and pain relief or bring the procedure forward for his sake. x

I know nothing about dog’s teeth but I do know about human teeth and this just seems way way too long to wait. It feels like an immediate issue that needs dealing with particularly antibiotics straight away. Sorry @Shamas - all my gut feelings are that he needs immediate attention. He’s not off his food for no reason

The extraction is booked for the 20th Feb, and the bloodwork for the 10th

It's a long wait :(
That is far too long. If he's not eating seems low infection may have already set in. Most vets will have a couple hours turn around for a routine bloods for ops and in an emergency will operate on the same day as they did with Moo. She was in kidney failure so the prepped her for surgery with this in mind. I would get a vet to check him to see if he has an infection. It's easy to check as he will have a temperature.

Right, I have a 4:20app at Firth for bloodwork, pain meds and preop. They can get him in for the 13th. I told Mathews that whomever can get him in soonest gets the job, and I'll get a copy of the bloodwork for them. We'd planned on using Mathews because of the prices, and Firth was where Sassycat died on the table during her dental(she had a stroke when the anesthetic was administered)....but Firth can get him in sooner, so it looks like they may get the job....
