Thismorning I noticed that one of the external stitches in Joy's paw appeared to have come adrift. Her paw looked clean and dry but it had a slightly odd smell, not necessarily of infection but it smelled different from her other paws. Back to the vet, all the time praying that she wasn't going to need another G A to have it re stitched, poor little girl. The vet had a good look and said that re stitching was an option but he didn't feel it was absolutely necessary as it was an external stitch and the internal ones were what's actually holding it all together. He agreed that there was an odd smell but thought it was necrotic tissue rather than infection. The wound is three quarters healed already he said, which is good after only a week. He's given her more antibiotics to be on the safe side and will see her in a week. That's such a relief, although it means the remaining stitches can't come out on Friday as was the original plan. Just read @Boogie's post about poor Echo's nose! They're coming over on Thursday for cafe practice, lunch and an attempt at Keir spotting. Two little wounded pups!:saddog::saddog:

It all looks the same as yesterday which I think is good news. She's bored though! I've ordered a book on Enrichment for dogs which I'm hoping will arrive today. On Thursday Mags and Echo are visiting so that should help. There's also the ( rather slow) ongoing saga of the Fitting of the Stove to keep us both amused/exasperated!

Woke up this morning and did what has now become my routine inspection of Joy's left hind paw and got a sinking feeling. A horrible 'I don't think we're having breakfast thismorning' feeling. Her wound was significantly more opened up. I think she must have somehow got to it over night despite the Comfy Cone. Taxi back to the Vet's and sure enough it needs re stitching which means another G A. The vet also thought she'd managed to lick it. He said that Comfy Cones can be very good particularly for shoulder wounds but that Joy is young, very flexible and desperate to clean her paw so if she can find a way to do it she will. Apparently he has known some dogs work out how to bend down the edges of the Comfy Cone and he thinks this is what she's done. So it's back to the big plastic cone then, poor girl. I can ring at 3pm to find out when to collect her. The only nice thing about it all was the vet commenting on the bond between us ( Joy and me, not the vet and me!) and her trust in me. He said it was always a pleasure to see us. I thought this was kind of him. It cheered me up a bit but I still feel awful for my GGJ.:'(

Poor GGJ and poor you! Just remember that dogs don't worry about these things. They just accept things as the new norm after a while. It is us that worry and feel awful. If she has to wear one of those awful cones, she will be fine once she get's used to it and it will aid her recovery.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.:hug::hug:

Oh no, poor GGJ and you. At least you know from Round 1 that she’ll bounce back quickly. And,, on a positive, it’s a good reminder that the comfy cones might not be beneficial in all circumstances. I hope all goes well today. ❤
