Happy New Year dear special Labrador friends.
We actually went to a new years party! Although I’d sprained my ankle in the morning walking Snowie in the forest. Rolled my foot over a tree root while I was trying to pull Snowie away from going down a steep embankment (I was worried he wouldn’t be able to get back out with booties on his paws)! Wow, it was painful!! Managed to hobble back, walk cut very, very short. So I couldn’t dance at the party (anyway, it was boring 80s music!). But I did enjoy being at the party thanks to ibuprofen!
We left at 11pm to get back in time to see the fireworks. Usually takes 25 mins, but there was gridlock on the roads. We made it just in time! There has been a lot of furore over the fireworks. It was initially banned due to animal terror from the bangs, especially being let off almost next to the aquarium and where a lot of wild seals hang out. But the economics won out (apparently it’s a huge drawcard into the Waterfront precinct). Well… it was our first time watching them and I wanted to understand what the fuss was about—Were they very loud? Were they so amazing that there just had to be a show? We found a road with a good view. 5 minutes of mostly meh. I lived in Sydney so I guess I’ve been spoiled.
When we got home, Snowie was fast asleep in his bed. Then, for another hour, people were letting off fireworks (illegally!). Meanwhile Snowie took himself onto the balcony to sleep amid all the bangs, a true gundog!
Curious to know if any other cities have banned fireworks due to animal terror?
