Hattie at the Vet ;( ;(

Hattie is so brave to let the vet drain the abscess. I'm sure it will clear up in no time now Helen and Hattie will be back to normal. In one way it's better than it being arthritis or a joint problem a course of antibiotics and all will be well. xxx

Oh crikey Hattie doesn't have a cyst she has an abscess. Sorry I have been so worried I got it wrong  I also can't spell puss (pus) It's not been a good day :( xx
Just like Merlin this summer!!! It’ll probably take a little while to heal up totally Helen, but at least you don’t need to worry about her joints. It’ll get better now the abscess has been drained. Poor Hattie, bet she’s relieved all that pus is out.

@Charlie I've been thinking Helen and five days is only a short course of antibiotics so please don't worry if Hattie's abscess hasn't gone by the end of them. Obviously the vet decides on the type of antibiotics and the length of the course due to numerous factors that us mere mortals don't understand but Scout has now had two abscesses and both times he's needed more antibiotics after he's finished the original course prescribed because the abscess hasn't completely gone. With the last abcess when he needed extra antibiotics the vet said some abcesses need "hitting hard" to make sure they've gone. Just wanted to try in advance to help you not have any unnecessary extra worry. Hopefully the five day course is all that's needed.:fingers:

Thank you so much. I hope it does clear up quickly but I won't be surprised if another course of antibiotics may be required as it was a pretty large abscess. I'm doing foot baths 3 x day so hoping all will be well. As you say ladies, I am hugely relieved it's not her joints or anything more serious. In fact I was amazed at how far out to the sides and back the vet manipulated her legs o_O xxx

A tip for you all if you need to deal with abcesses in the future. When doing cooled boiled salted water foot baths, add 1/2 tsp of bicarbonate of sodar which draws the pus out and then the salt cleans it. My vet told me :) xx

A little update. Yesterday I took Hattie back to the vet for a checkup. The abscess has still not completely gone, just a little left but the vet was reluctant to prescribe more ABs as she has been on a hefty course. I have to continue bathing her foot twice a day but we are back to full excercise and PAT work :D I have to keep a close eye on her foot and if it doesn't clear up or becomes enlarged she may need surgery :( Obviously really hoping it doesn't come to that. We were thrilled to be out and about meeting all our friends in this glorious weather. Happy days!! xxx
