Homer's tooth

I hope all goes well today. Dental work is miserable for humans and can't imagine it is any more pleasant for dogs but it will be so much better for him to get the teeth out and dealt with now than let it deteriorate and possibly cause really serious infection. It just has to be done and hopefully he will feel better quickly.

Glad your colleagues are understanding.

Fingers crossed he can keep the tooth in. Either way, he’ll be more comfortable and the risk of infection will be totally gone. A root canal is a lengthy op as they have to get every bit of pulp out and it’s fiddly, so don’t worry if you don’t hear much for a while.

I’m sure Homer will have lots of cuddles and soft, tasty food waiting for him when he gets home.

I had a root canal and was terrified, it turned out to be great as the nerves in the tooth were already dead. A dog has a GA and will feel nothing, a bit sore afterwards perhaps. I have seen lots of dogs have dentistry, usually extractions and they are fine. Hope Homer will be home soon and you can relax that it is all over. I found it so different when it was my dog undergoing an op, a nervous wreck, so I understand how you must be feeling.

Just had a call from the vet. Successful root canal on the canine, no need for any thing other than a clean on the molar and an old broken incisor tooth and root removed. All sounds good. He’s just been given more opioids so I will have to wait a bit. Luckily I have all of you with me while I wait.
