This afternoon I walks Reuben whilst rain hater Nelly stayed in the car with Paul , when Reubs suddenly took off after a deer , he usually returns after a short time but he didnt . Now this is a long story , but I wont bore you with it all , so having alerted Paul , plus a lovely couple out walking their dog , I heard Reuben howling from a distance . I tramped up a very steep hill , kept calling him and he replied by crying , I was convinced he must be badly injured , otherwise he would have come back to me . Eventually , his cries got closer until at last, right at the top of the forest I spotted him , but there was a massive problem . First one being an electric fence, then a space and then a rigid deer fence about five foot high with an electric fence on top . Poor lad was terrified but thankfully uninjured , just in blind panic . I remembered how to earth an electric fence with a stick , so this is what I did , but still managed to get a few shocks crawling under it , then I got to the lad , but no way could he jump the fence , I managed to thread his slip lead through the holes, so he was secure and then I laid down, in the torrential rain , next to Reuben but with the fence between us , for almost two hours whilst waiting for help . I heard calling , it was the couple . they had found me and were on Reubens side of the fence . I cried with relief . They helped me to climb over the fence , first earthing the electric part at the top , then we had a two mile walk back to the cars . I do not know how he got over the two fences in the first place, maybe there was a gap somewhere along , but I am forever grateful to this wonderful couple for finding me , they had told Paul that he must call the emergency services if too much time passed . I will never ever go back to this forest again , I am still shaking like a leaf but so glad to have my boy back safe and sound xxxx
