I dont know where to start !

This afternoon I walks Reuben whilst rain hater Nelly stayed in the car with Paul , when Reubs suddenly took off after a deer , he usually returns after a short time but he didnt . Now this is a long story , but I wont bore you with it all , so having alerted Paul , plus a lovely couple out walking their dog , I heard Reuben howling from a distance . I tramped up a very steep hill , kept calling him and he replied by crying , I was convinced he must be badly injured , otherwise he would have come back to me . Eventually , his cries got closer until at last, right at the top of the forest I spotted him , but there was a massive problem . First one being an electric fence, then a space and then a rigid deer fence about five foot high with an electric fence on top . Poor lad was terrified but thankfully uninjured , just in blind panic . I remembered how to earth an electric fence with a stick , so this is what I did , but still managed to get a few shocks crawling under it , then I got to the lad , but no way could he jump the fence , I managed to thread his slip lead through the holes, so he was secure and then I laid down, in the torrential rain , next to Reuben but with the fence between us , for almost two hours whilst waiting for help . I heard calling , it was the couple . they had found me and were on Reubens side of the fence . I cried with relief . They helped me to climb over the fence , first earthing the electric part at the top , then we had a two mile walk back to the cars . I do not know how he got over the two fences in the first place, maybe there was a gap somewhere along , but I am forever grateful to this wonderful couple for finding me , they had told Paul that he must call the emergency services if too much time passed . I will never ever go back to this forest again , I am still shaking like a leaf but so glad to have my boy back safe and sound xxxx

Oh sweet Mary, Kate. Thank God you’re okay, and Reuben’s okay - and what a blessing that that lovely couple took you seriously and could come to your aid. You must be ever so shaken up. Have you warmed up and had something bracing?

Please look after yourself now, have a quiet couple of days and be gentle. Goodness, I’m pleased you’re okay xx

Just saw this on FB...just so glad you and Reuben are ok but you have had a nasty shock. Hope you have a very uneventful weekend!!

Have seen this on Facebook but have just read it again on here, it must have been a horrific experience, thank heaven for the visiting couple. I can understand why you are so shaken up, such a long time to wait and then that long walk when you must have been in a state of shock. Hope the wine has helped you feel calmer xxx

I’ve just seen this on Facebook too. Thank goodness the kind couple persevered and found you and Reuben. Perhaps just a gentle walk for you both tomorrow? x

What a story. So pleased it has a happy ending. But what an ordeal, lying in torrential rain for two hours!!! I don’t know how you did it.

Oh good Lord, poor you! I expect you are exhausted. Look after yourself, wrap up warm and have an early night!

P.S: I am starting to think that anyone who considered having a dog was good for your physical and mental well being obviously didn't have labradors! :hungover::rofl:

I just saw this on FB and now again here. I agree with everyone else who is gently bullying you into ALWAYS having your mobile with you. I hate mobile phones but they give you so much extra security if and when you need to be in contact with others.
Secondly, if Reuben is a deer chaser, knowing where you live, you should invest in a GPS tracker for his collar. I know you wouldn’t be happy to keep him on a lead the whole time, but this is twice in a very short time that he has been in a potentially dangerous situation - and more than that, is potentially putting you in danger in the process. At least if you can track him, you will know exactly where he is. Think on it, Kate, please. X

Oh my gosh! I'm glad you are both okay. Lots of warm, dry cuddles are in order I think.

I would have had a good cry too.
