?Infection

@Naya, Poppy goes to hydrotherapy twice a week and it really helps her. She found it a bit freaky the first time, but once she realized she was going to get a stream of treats the whole time she soon got the hang of it! It is really interesting to see that when she is on the treadmill she walks completely fluidly, no limp at all. It means she gets 20 minutes of good gentle exercise, and I also feel it is a bit of a trip out for her. She also enjoys the gentle rub down with a towel afterwards, and generally being fussed. It is relatively expensive, but really worth it.

In my head, she gets back and says to Merlin "Oh, I've just been out for my aqua jogging session and spa treatment. Oh, don't you go? Ah well, I expect they just don't love you as much as they love me..." :giggl:

Thanks @MellowYellow
Harley is managing walks up to 20 minutes. She no longer likes paths, even mud ones, it has to be grass. Some days we cover a good amount of ground, other days it’s very stop start.
I brought her diet food recommended by the vets and she refuses it. I persevered for 3 days 25% new and 75% old food and she hardly ate anything. I’ve given up on that food after paying over £100 as can only get it online. We are just measuring her food very very carefully.
Harley has a hydro assessment in 2 weeks - our old place has closed down so are going somewhere new - it’s £175 for the first appointment then £75 each time after that.
Her raspy breathing has gotten worse and that worries me, but I’m taking each day as it comes.

Y@Naya, your hydrotherapy is i very expensive! I paid £37 for each session with Rourke.

I wonder if ketamine injection would also help, it did for Rourke.
Hydro is a lot more expensive at this new place compared to where we went before covid. Unfortunately there are very few that have availability near me.
I will look into that injection, thanks x

The last week has been positive. our walks are up to 30 mins and she even had a little ply in some shallow water a few days ago.
Unfortunately we have had another setback. Last night around 5pm Harley started limping and was not weight bearing on her leg that was operated on. By midnight it was also starting to swell. This morning it is double the size. I iced it 3 times overnight with no change. We have just got back from the vets. They think she has an infection by the plate or in the screw threads and when she’s on antibiotics it keeps the infection from spreading, but every time the antibiotics stop, the infection is spreading rapidly. They have put her back on antibiotics and we are booked to see the surgeon next Wednesday to see what he suggests as she can’t stay on antibiotics permanently as could cause more problems.
I honestly feel like I’m on a rollercoaster that just won’t stop.

Oh Ternaya, I'm so sorry Harley has had another set-back. It must be exhausting for you both. I hope the surgeon can help on Wednesday, it seems a long time away, but I suppose it gives the antibiotics time to work xx

Oh no Naya, so sorry to read about the setback! You must be so tired and must feel helpless. Again and again the worry, just when it seemed to be improving! I hope the vet is able to do something about it Wednesday!
In the mean time you have to think of yourself too. I hope that you might be able to do find something to distract yourself!

This must be so frustrating and upsetting for you, all going well and then back to problems. My thoughts are the same as @Joy, to remove the plate? When I worked for a vet years ago, when he pinned a broken leg, he always removed the pin when the leg was healed. Has the actual infection been tested to see which antibiotic it is sensitive to?

Oh no! Wednesday must seem ages away. I hope the antibiotics help and Harley improves a bit again before then. Look after yourself too.:thelambiesarecoming:
