Poor Lilly, are you using Vaseline on her nose? I used a factor 50 stick suncream on my boys nose in the summer and Vaseline in the winter, but we did think it was HNPK that he had.

We tried both Vaseline and Sudocrem @SteffiS
Both just get licked off.
Not quite sure that the factor 50 isn't making this worse as the nose is so delicate. Going out in a bit and will give it another go. Just cleaned my floors post puppy so bound to het blood and cream all over it.

I know she will lick some off, but could you maybe try medical grade Manuka Honey ? I am a massive believer in the healing properties which may still work even if Lilly ingests it ! Poor lamb xx

Julie (Lochan) suggested trying some coloured cream, at least I would see if it was still there or not. Will look on t'internet later. Not much choice of sun cream in Cupar in winter....
I think Lilly needs to be off the steroids for at least a couple of weeks before a biopsy is useful, about 10 days off now, so will go with the expert advice 're timing. It's been on-going for a couple of months now, but definitely not as bad as this.

Poor girl. Noses are a bad spot to apply cream to....the tongue is too handy. When Simba has his staph infection on his nose it was above the actual nose, so his tongue couldn’t reach, but his paws could. So it was the dreaded cone for him until it healed. That wouldn’t help Lily, unfortunately. Does she paw at it too?

I do hope the dermatologist vet will have some ideas and be either able to cure it or use some medication which will help considerably.

Well we are on a 2 week course of (expensive) antibiotics that might be extended to 4 weeks if needed.
The referral has been made, maybe 2-4 weeks, which is okay as the steroids will be well out her system - steroids modify inflammatory response and change what things look like under a microscope, particularly for skin things.
The vet talked about giving me a prescription for a combination of supplements (Nicotinamide) and antibiotics (oxytetracycline) along with me keeping her fish oils high in her diet - suggested by Julie and obviously sanctioned by him too - after I suspect he did aa little reasearch as he called me back. I have said we will see how it goes on the antibiotics first, but likely will take this route. No pont in doing too many things at once or you don't know what has helped.

Yeah, they do normally, and I would say they did, along with increasing thirst a bit.
I have postulated that either I was so worried about her gaining weight that I cut her food down too much (and starved the poor soul ) or the steroids had upset her sugars and made her diabetic and she was peeing out all her sugar and losing weight that way. Didn't get around to checking her urine, though I brought some sticks home......
She dropped from 25.6kg last November after her holiday at my SIL's - normal weight 24.5-25kg - way down to 22.6kg around a month ago.
She has been getting hefty rations, lots of sardines and far too many treats to get her back up to her fighting weight.

Does she paw at it too?

Thankfully not so far. Neither has she rubbed it, apart from yesterday when she was trying to get the sun cream off and I had streaks of cream/blood over the floor

Poor Lilly and it must worry you so much too Jac. A nightmare of a place to treat topically, as her vulva probably was. Both places dogs seem very keen to lick. I hope the dermatologist can come up with a treatment that works quickly.
