Lump on the side of Hunter's Cheek

@Loraseal I'm sorry you had such an unsatisfactory vet visit with Hunter. Scout had a swollen cheek in the summer. The vet said it was an abscess above the carnassial tooth. The tooth was fine no damage or decay and he ate and drank fine happily chopping on kongs. She thought he'd damaged the gum and germs had got in causing the abscess. So even though Hunter's teeth are good it doesn't mean it's not an abscess. Scout also had an abscess on the side of his lower jaw a few years ago. No idea how and that definitely wasn't in his gum but there was a small wound that had healed on his cheek which could've been a tiny puncture wound and so trapped in germs when it healed leading to the abscess. It maybe worth checking Hunters cheek for any small wounds if you haven't already. Both times Scout had a long course of antibiotics to get rid of it. Unfortunately I can't find the link but I remember reading dental abscesses can cause snotty noses. I hope Hunter is feeling better soon and you get some answers from your vet.

I'm no vet but I don't think snot should smell :shake:. Take a sample. Vets love samples. Well mine seem to they are forever asking for samples. Admittedly urine not snot. The day I'd taken in the fifth urine sample for Scout and paid the £110 for lab cultures I received a letter from the vets informing me now S&S are 8 they are eligible for a free health check with the nurse and a free urine test !!!! Better still if I needed advice on how to collect a sample to ask when I made the appointment. Now that really is taking the p**s :cwl:Get the vet to have a sniff of Hunters nose sample if they are still adamant it's not an abscess. :hmm:

Only just catching up with this now. Sorry the poor boy's not so well. Just to mention that Joy had an abscess last year from her jaw, going up behind her eye and was very poorly. She was seen by several vets and had X rays but nothing showed up. Then I noticed that her left eye was starting to protrude which gave the vet a bit more of an idea of what was going on. The only investigation that actually identified the abscess was CT scan. Once the abscess had been drained she went on to make a full recovery. I do hope you get some answers soon. It's so upsetting when they're not themselves.

I had the other vet. She has given Hunter antibiotics and if his snotty nose does not improve in 6 days it is scope in the nose as she thinks it is a blockage. Lump will be tested in 2 weeks. She wants to wait for the lump tests as his nostril concerns her more. So I feel slightly better but he really is not the mischievous monkey, crazy idiot that I am used to.
