Lump on the side of Hunter's Cheek

That’s great! Has he finished the antibiotics now?
He was only given the medication when his nose was being cleaned out. They inject it straight into him. So no extra pills etc. Apparently antibiotics don't always work on fungal infections and can make it worse. I hope it does not need to be repeated but we just have to wait and see.

Topical antifungal medication tends to have a higher rate of success than systemic drugs and is recommended for dogs with nasal aspergillosis. Using general anesthesia, this treatment involves applying the solution directly into the nose, where it is left for up to an hour. During this time, your dog will regularly be turned in order to maximize contact with the antifungal medication. Before your dog wakes up, excess medication will be drained out through the nostrils.
This is what my poor bubba had.

Re antibiotics, I have observed that it is standard vet practice to administer antibiotics without testing for bacteria. I think this is very bad practice, but I can understand that the dog owner is not going to question this in what is usually a very stressful situation. Including myself, when a few weeks ago I allowed my boy to have an antibiotic injection “just in case” of infection (I’ll write more about this in another thread, if I get round to it!).

Here’s a relevant podcast from Radio National: “Antibiotics are obviously a very useful drug, and have been for decades. Trouble is, disease-causing bacteria get used to them, and become resistant. That's what leads to so-called superbugs that can't be treated with modern antibiotics.” Health Report - ABC RN by ABC Podcasts on Apple Podcasts. Web page: What next in the war on superbugs?

@Loraseal Im so glad Hunter has improved so quickly it's great news and such a relief for you. Also good news about the lump being caused by the fungal infection too. Have you noticed a change in that yet ? The anti fungal administering does sound quite an ordeal but at least you know Hunter will have known nothing about it. He was fast asleep. :sleepy: Here's hoping one dose of the "magic medicine" works. It sounds like it's already worked wonders.
