Maxx at training

I woke up at 3.30 this morning worrying about Maxx's jumping up And couldn't get back to sleep. I keep telling myself that we will get there but it's not always helping
You WILL get there - Maxx is still very young. Sky at that age would run like the wind chasing house martins - the red mist would come down and she’d be off - no recall whatsoever. We never took her training and she turned into the best dog ever. Now she can barely walk down the road with her arthritis. Enjoy him

If you need a harness for control while you’re putting in the training, I found a front-fastening harness the kindest way to control while not having my arm yanked off. One school we went to insisted on the nose/head halter—it was awful! Snowie hated it.

And I hope you post a video with sound of you doing recall ala Cath and Kim. :cwl:

taking a break that we talk about on here now, and I just tried to control Monty's excesses rather than trying to bring them down.
We were guilty of this too. The little guy was so overstimulated and over threshold and we just tried to keep going. It was soooo embarrassing next to the smug people with their perfect little toy poodle!

That said Chewie was always the fastest learner, he just did it while shouting and jumping around like a kangaroo...

You have a dog that’s TOO happy. Yeah it can be a bit annoying. Yeah it can be a bit embarrassing. But it’s really not the end of the world.

He’s not aggressive. He’s not anxious. He’s not reactive. He’s not fearful.

He has no real behaviour problems and he’s healthy.

After seeing what some of the people on this forum go through with their dogs I’ll happily take being embarrassed and looking incompetent occasionally
Thank you! I really relate to this and need to remind myself of it frequently.

Maxx was much better at training today...well after a while. He is still lunging and jumping at everyone and we despair how to stop it. I just hope as he gets more disciplined he might stop. Otherwise we will have to try the nose halter again

Here he is taking his turn at sitting in the middle while the other dogs walk around him. The aim is to get your dog to look at you and not at the other dogs

Yes it is all about the training. Red is hugely interested in other dogs (and people), in some ways more now at 2 than ever but the more you learn the more ‘tools in your box’ you have to keep them engaged with you. Well done Max (and Steve)

Goodness! That looks difficult for a young lab like Maxx. I would have asked the other clients for a much wider circle, and just one at a time with the other stood quietly waiting to the side. Too much noise, movement and dogs.

Under the quite difficult circumstances Maxx did really well. I have been indoors doing that exercise and it was way too much for Charlie. A much bigger circle is definitely advisable and will allow Maxx and the other dogs to end on a positive. Good going. xx

Maxx was SO good at training today. It's like something 'clicked'. He still jumped up at lots of people, including our trainer, but in class he was focussed and obedient.

At the end the trainer said 'Maxx is going for grading'. What? Mad Maxx? Grading.... graduating from first class? No way. Steve and I shook our heads and said to each other 'no way, he's not ready'

Anyway......didn't he prove us wrong
