Aw he’s such a beaut! Glad to hear he’s feeling better. I wonder whether he punctured it when leaping over that fence? Perhaps a nail?
I also meant to include in my previous post that the Golden with the limp was found to have perfect elbows—at least the cost of the X-ray provided some worthwhile info!

Glad to hear it wasn't his hips or worse, but a worry that there could still be something in his paw. The things they do to us!
Thank you everyone; Merlin does indeed seem to be improving slowly. His paw doesn't smell awful any more - it is still red and sore, but he can walk on it, and in fact we have got to the stage where he wants to do ZOOOOOOOMIES on soft grass and has to go back on the lead to reduce his exuberance!!! A couple more quiet days I think, then we are driving back to Germany on Sunday and I hope next week he will be back to normal.

Merlin is much better, thank you Naya! His foot looks much better, not so red or sore-looking, but there is still a lump in between the pads. He can walk on all four legs, but if he runs around the paw clearly gets sore. He has three more days of antibiotics, then if it doesn't look completely ok I'll take him to our vet.
We are home now after an eleven-hour drive... Both dogs were stars on a hot, tiring drive.

It is possible. Although the English vets did check very thoroughly, and they couldn't find anything. I have bathed his foot in warm salty water this evening, in the hope that might open the lump, but no luck so far.
More of the same - the lump between the toes is still there, but nowhere near as sore. However, it clearly is still tender if he walks on uneven, stony ground. Poor lad. I fear it'll be (yet another) visit to the vet's before the weekend...

Don't forget the new insurance company will not insure a pre-existing condition - I think!
