Thank you everyone for your kind comments about Sky. Reflecting on yesterday - we did a lot and it was hot. She is ok today - looking tired but plodding about in her way these days. We have had to make a lot of adjustments with her this year and I know that’s the way it will be but we will continue to make sure her life is the best. I felt we failed her yesterday as we expected too much of her - DH hadn’t realised we were so far behind and he’s cross with himself for not bringing the car to us. She is always so eager to please. She had such a great time in the sea.

I think that's the thing - you just have to adjust with old dogs and make things easier for them. At the beach the other day, I saw a family with a push chair coming back up the coastal path to the car park - with an old dog in it!!!! "He can't manage the path any more, but he does so love to run on the beach", they said...

Now there’s a thought.....:)
You can get push chairs especially for dogs and not just little pug type dogs. My neighbour had an old springer who loved to go for walks, rooting about for a scent like they do. She got a doggy pushchair to take him to his favourite walk in a wood then when he'd had a good root about push him home or he'd walk part of the way then get a lift. He loved it his nose in the air sniffing. I know how heartbreaking it can be when our old dogs can't do what they have always loved but one things for sure Sky will always love just being with you even if that's just snoozing in the sun. xx

I saw a 3 legged lab with his own little 4 wheeled wagon the other day. It was a great thing and it helped him get to the park for a run (and he really did) without him getting too tired for the homeward journey.

Wish they lived so much longer....

I’m sure that Sky still has much enjoyment ahead of her in life and even beach trips. The hot weather is hard...old doggies can’t regulate their temperatures very well.

So glad Sky is looking a bit better now. Poor little thing and poor you for having the worry and the sadness  but I'm sure she will have lots more lovely moments with you

We have been there too! Our first lab liked to swim in the see, but when she got older she couldn’t do this anymore. She was hurting after swimming, had arthritis. When she had swum she couldn’t walk, not even an evening walk before sleep. The day after she couldn’t get out of bed. We gave her painkillers then, while we knew it was hurting her. She reached the beautiful age of 14 years!
Euan was the same, a bit earlier in age! And again we gave him painkillers before going to the beach, so that afterwards he could walk back and the day after!
