Nipple - to be removed :(

Has anyone had experience with a swollen nipple in a *male* Lab? Last week I noticed Snowie’s nipple (second one up from the end) was swollen. I thought he’d scratched it—he’s itchy at the moment. But a week later no better. So took him to the vet on Friday and she wants to remove it on Monday—tomorrow. She doesn’t know what it is and wants to send it away to a specialist to determine. But she said it must be removed ASAP. I’m so worried it’s cancer. Hoping it’s just a cyst or infection. On Friday night he was licking it and nibbling it—I think it got very irritated from all the prodding at the vet—and it started to bleed and weep. I was so worried. Otherwise he pays no attention to it. And he’s happy and has enjoyed his walks all weekend. Don’t know how we’re going to cope with no breakfast tomorrow. We take him in at 10.30am for sedation (vet so nice, said we can be with him while he’s being sedated), op at 11am, can pick him up around 1pm. And he must wear a cone.

Pic from this morning’s walk, and pics of the nipple. Very difficult to get a decent pic! Had to keep tickling his tummy with one hand to keep him on his back and hold the phone and press the camera button with the other!

He’s almost 9 years old.

Homer has a nipple that often gets inflamed with a yeast like infection. I clean it with hibiscrub when it flares up and becomes red. After a few days is subsided but is always a bit mor pronounced than the others. The vet shoes me how to squeeze it gently to clean it out. When I first noticed it and took him to the vet she said it could be removed if cleaning it out wasn’t effective.
