It went, but not well!
First thing was getting the meds into her. Because this is a gel that needs to go in through the mucosal layer, we've been playing with various different things and landed on a quarter of a chicken back being the best bet, since it's small enough for her to keep it in her mouth without dropping it on the floor, but large enough that it takes a while to eat, increasing the exposure of the goo with her gums and top of mouth.
I have to wear latex gloves for this, I was told. I gave her a test piece of chicken to get her revved up for it, then gave her the first of two "loaded" pieces. As she took it from my hand, she also took the end of the glove, which then stretched and pinged back, terrifying her. After that, she wouldn't come near.
Luckily, we've done a lot of work on feeding from her mat station, so I was able to get it into her that way. She wasn't fazed at all by the goo, which was good, so then I set up cameras, retreated, and waited while J went to collect the vet. She did eventually settle down on her vetbed outside, but she wasn't asleep. And, when the vet arrived, she was her normal self, just with an extra edge because there was a stranger there.
There was no way in hell we could have got anywhere near her if we'd tried. The vet did see her wee, and suspects crystals, so will give us some meds to give her for that, and then on Monday or Tuesday of next week, we'll try to give her a cocktail of more potent drugs to knock her out.
On the plus side, the vet has seen just how bad she is now, so we can come up with a better plan to move it forwards.
