Not a good guard dog

At just after 5am this morning I heard some noises, and Homer growled. I told him to shhh as I knew our neighbours had visitors and may be moving around their house. Then I heard more noises, stomping footsteps louder than before so I got up and went downstairs. As I came down the stairs I saw the front door wide open and a man move quickly out our living room through the door. So I ran after him shouting. Barefoot, in my pjs yelling “Stop!” I nearly caught up to him as he jumped on a bike and rode off so I chased him some more down the main road.

Homer slept through it all after I told him to shh.

We found my phone and headphones stashed in a side street, but he got away with Hubby’s phone and laptop.

Oh how horrible for you. So frightening but good boy Homer for alerting you. You were brave chasing the man who could have turned on you. Lucky all you lost was a few bits. Hmm ... a lesson learned, listen to Homer! Did you call the Police? xx

Oh my word, that must have been scary for you! I can't believe Homer slept through it - my lot would have been shouting the entire street down! He must have been having wonderful dreams.

I'm sorry you lost some of your belongings, that's so frustrating. Have the police given any indication of whether they might have any luck finding the burglars?

Here a similar experience some years ago. We had Doerak, our first and I guess she liked the burglar by telling him where my handbag was....
My oh left the house real early as there was someone in hospital who was needing him desperately. He only closed the door, not with the key. After a few minutes I heard something and thought my oh was back and that he had forgotten something....alas no...a burglar came into our house by using a card and opened the door quite easily. Our doerak didn’t bark or growled....

A horrible experience for you. You don’t feel safe for quite some time...

Homer normally barks when we have visitors come in late or the neighbours come in late or sometimes for no apparent reason but this time he just gave a low growl.

Lesson learned to always double lock the front door.

I said to Hubby that I think we should get another lock for the door but he said we should just use the ones we have!

Oh good heavens , how horrible for you , I guess you didnt think of potential dangers when you took chase , thank goodness Homer was on the ball, even if it wasnt the blood curdling bark he might have done, bless him , thank goodness you are alright x

What a terrible thing to happen to you all. You were very brave to give chase. Did he force the door.
You are all safe and that is what matters most

What a horrible experience, as Emily says you sound very calm and controlled. How’re you feeling now? I’d be furious, and probably feel violated. Did the police help?

I'm feeling fine, I think Hubby is feeling worse as he had to go off to work and its his phone and laptop he's without. I just wish I could run faster! I'll need to be gentle with him tonight.

I think I would like extra lock or a bolt on the door.

I often hear noises at night, neighbours or people in the street so I suppose I'll lie awake and go downstairs for every little noise now.

I've had three neighbours come round who I hardly know, all lovely and very concerned. Running up the street in your pyjamas yelling at the top of your voice at 5:15am is possibly not the best way to build community spirit but certainly effective!

Maybe Hubby will come round to the idea of another puppy!

Police were helpful ... but ... Hubby's phone is still at the address we tracked it to using 'find my phone'.

Forensics came but there were no clear fingerprints.
