Otter's Journey....

This is a little video working on a bit of calmness around food, as well as reinforcing her name. I have progressed to all the gang together. It is a lovely way I think to help Otter with natural self control around the other dogs, and that anything prefaced with her name, means HER and it is GOOD STUFF! I like this game, very simple, and it doesn't rely on withholding food to train self control. I am pretty sure that the calm and quiet manner of the other dogs helps her with keeping her arousal low in this game. A lovely positive learning environment, especially as she spends so much time in her crate.

The Gang - Is it my turn yet? :)

Ohhh myyy goodness Kate, that’s a fabulous game - and they’re all so calm! And Otter’s little face when you say her name!! “Me? Really?”.
Utterly lovely.

Oh Otter...gimme a break!!! 5.20am... She is a bouncing whirling dervish yelling the place down I WANNAGETOUTNOW!!!!

Just before 7 am now and she has settled a bit. I think part of the problem is she is starting to feel better, and wanting to do normal puppy things. It's tough on her. This is the time though I have to be so careful, especially like this morning! I have to stick to my guns and not give in to to those pleading puppy eyes!

Took her to my lovely rehab vet with Casper, the objective was to pair the car trip with a positive "thing" at the end, or at the very least a neutral event. Just took Otter in slowly while Casper was on the treadmill. The vet avoided any eye contact to reduce conflict with Otter. Otter on a loose lead, not using treats unless she looked up at me. She was a little anxious, but as everything was on her terms, it was OK. She wanted to explore a bit and say hello to the vet, which was good. We had a little bit of nervous barking, however happy with how it went. Another brief visit next week planned. Otter was also weighed whilst there....at just 5 months she is 18.9kg....hmmmm.....

Maybe not so small of adult after all, then? :D
Seriously I got up this morning (well it felt like nighttime...) and thought...is that Benson in there???? I do wonder if she is just having a growth spurt and will just stop soon...I am not sure she is going to be a petite wee thing anymore...she is getting stronger as well...

This is Otter this morning, trying the name game with a bit more distraction...:) Worked like a hole in the head...Casper f***ked off, I ended up nearly pulled from the bench trying to hold onto a bouncy chocolate terror! You can see in the ohsoshort video, Casper has his eye on something....:cwl:

Otter had her teeth cleaned for the first time today! Yayy! At first she viewed the toothpaste tube with plastic attachment with deep suspicion. I ignored her and just fiddled with it, popped the toothbrush on the ground in front of me with a blob of toothpaste. Well that was enough! Otter's natural curiosity took hold and she just had to investigate. After just a few minutes she was very happy with the the rubber finger toothbrush being presented while she eagerly sucked of the toothpaste!

On the walking front, we have been for 2 gentle and slow 10 minute walks. Maybe it's the rest on that damaged ligament, or maybe she has grown significantly but there is a definite improvement in slippage of the stifle (reduction in cranial tibial thrust) The cruciate cranial ligament sits inside the stifle, supporting the joint, when injured this is what leads to knee instability.

Just because...........:inlove:
