Otter's Journey....

The wound looks amazing, swelling has completely resolved around the stifle joint, which is great considering all the worry this time last week. I am relieved we didn't take our local vets advice - drain and antibiotics, instead kept our nerve as per the orthodogs advice. Phew!!!

Rehab wise, we are on 10mins of lead walk twice a day. This takes AGES as Otter has discovered ripe blackberries, she carefully checks them all out and nibbles the best ones! Inside we are still using a crate, or crate pen set up, with a bit of very carefully supervised freedom in our lounge. It does seem like our house is swimming in vet bed! Literally covering every inch of our lovely wooden and tiled floors. @Beanwood even mused the other day that it would be MUCH easier just to go back to carpet! We do let her have a off lead freedom when she is working on scent games outside, she is so totally engrossed in those! :tail: Part of me also thinks that the more opportunities she has to walk normally off lead the better, to allow a more natural range of movement for her joints. We also hope to start gentle rehab soon, in the next few weeks. I took Otter to Casper's rehab last week, just to start getting her comfortable again with the environment. Her natural nervousness of people has been exacerbated with all her negative experience at the vet, and kicked off with crap puppy classes. Right now I just want to go 2 weeks without a blimmin visit to the vet!!!

Medication wise she is now of Metacam, but on a single dose of meds to help calm her once daily in the morning.

Her stifle does seem a little more stable, even from a few days ago, this may be due a fairly obvious growth spurt!

So pleased and relieved for you all , she is coming along so very well under your care . I remember when Sam had his cancer surgery , there was a swelling in situ , our Vet said to leave it to reduce on its own as it would only fill up again if drained . What a good little girl she is , soon be a dim and distant memory for her x

Isn’t she just the most lissom creature?! I’m so looking forward to seeing how she develops as her muscle grows, she’s a glorious limber thing at the moment.

You are doing just fantastically with her :dug:

Just a cutie pie! Otter was playing with @Mr Beanwood and her bumbley bee toy which she loves. She engages really well with play, especially tuggy. I remember it took AGES with Bramble. Play is going to be so important as we move forward and look at some of her behaviours. In the photo she has brought bumbley bee back, hoping that Marcus might play a little more. :inlove:

3 weeks and one day...Post Op

It feels like forever..I made the mistake of looking at the next stage of rehab...it goes on forever!!! jeez....

We are still at 10 min lead walks, although I do let her off if I absolutely know she is calm, working with her nosecones for example - or carrying a particularly fascinating piece of wood home...:inlove:

Today after a really successful session with harness training we went blackberry picking. She just LOVES picking her own treats! :sun::heart:

You can see a close up of her wound..to think only last Monday I was contemplating driving across to Winchester to get her wound checked! Fur is starting to really grow in. I can also see some muscle coming back.
