Poorly Reuben

Thank you all xx Reuben had been very sick sometime in the night , it wasnt due to coughing as I would have heard him and as sickness can be a side effect of the drug I will definitely ring our Vet tomorrow . In himself he seems alright although still a little on the lethargic side , but he did ask for and relish his breakfast  and coughing has decreased a lot xx

Poor boy. Hope you have been managing to sleep Kate. The vomit alarm is very effective.
He is a big strong boy he will be fine, but we will all worry along with you until he is back to normal.
Just hope the Birthday Girl stays well

They attributed it to people not taking their dogs in for their regular vaccinations/kennel cough treatment because of
Good point Lisa. And many people just get the KC vaccine because they use kennels for holidays, which of course may also drop numbers since people are staying home. Around here too there are SO many more people walking their dogs in areas that are normally fairly quiet, I'm sure that may increase virus spread locally, though in THEORY it shouldn't be spreading widely......

Just read this , and now even more convinced that Reubs was just plain unlucky to have picked up that tennis ball he found x

Bordetella bacteria can survive on surfaces for up to two full days, so it's easily spread between dogs via contaminated objects. An infected dog might pick up a toy, or drink from a water dish, that a healthy dog uses afterward. That healthy dog is then likely to contract the bacteria and/or virus.

I live in a dog heavy area so kennel cough is always around. My dogs usually get it once in their lives then they are ok. If they are healthy it's fine I don't even take the to the vet. I let them rest make sure they are hydrated and isolated from the general dog pop. They are usually fine. I don't get the KC vaccine because there are so many types of bordertella. I've always seen it as just a hazard of living here.

Up until now, he hadnt felt bothered about a walk , quite happy to snooze the day away but this morning he is raring to go . I`m not feeling too grand myself ( bad upset tummy ) so I wouldnt want to stray too far from the house anyway ! I never thought to ask the Vet about the infectious period , but as he hasnt coughed for almost two days I would think he is more or less over it now xx

Amber has had KC twice. Each time she has come through it with flying colours. I just made her rest as you have done and made her drink and used Manuka honey.
Sadly, when I have yelled at other dog people that she has recently had KC they don't seem to understand and don't recall their dogs.

Are you feeling better today Kate?
A little more human today thank you x I`ve had a horrible tummy bug or maybe a flare up of the IBS I used to suffer from , havent eaten anything for almost three days but this morning I had half a mashed banana with a little honey , so far so good ! Only drinking water though , oh I long for a cup of tea but never mind , its slowly improving xx
