Poppy

Thank you everyone. In the usual way of things, she is actually a lot better today! We've upped her medication, and she is steadier on her back legs, not as lame on her front legs, and is back to being bright and cheerful in herself. She hates the heat, and it is very hot here right now (35 degrees...) but it is due to cool down at the weekend so that will also make things easier for her.

I did ask the vet about the dreaded put-to-sleep situation, and when we get to that point we can make an appointment and they will come out to us, which I am very relieved about as Poppy is very anxious at the vet's and I would like to spare her that. However, that day is not come yet, and we live to fight another day!! I know we will continue to have ups and downs, and it is true that generally this is a downward trend - but that's ok, as long as she is happy and is eating well and going out for little strolls in the woods, then I think her quality of life is pretty good.

I’m so sorry to read this about darling Poppy. I know how heartbreaking it is. I’m so glad things are looking better.

How was Merlin with the extra meds? He probably felt wonderful! 😁

We had a really nice little outing this morning. We drove to a local valley running through forested hills, with a stream, where it is always nice and cool. OH and Merlin went for a good hike, about an hour and a half, and Poppy and I just chilled - bit of sniffing, bit of meandering, bit of sitting on a bench reading a book (me) and watching the world go by (her). Lots of nice dogs and people. It was lovely, and just the right pace for her.

By the way, the book is James Rebanks' The Place of Tides, I am loving it! Very beautiful and quite haunting.
