It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were sharing the antics of (and worries about) our young dogs. Now, sadly, we’re sharing the agonies of making that decision for those that are now oldies.

You’ll have time to concentrate on Poppy over the coming days, rather than feeling torn and worrying about her when you’re away. Like Poppy, Wispa wasn’t eating and somehow it seemed to be her way of letting me know that it was time to let her go…. It’s the hardest decision we have to make for our dogs and it helps to be able to share that journey here, as we all understand.

It’s so tough to make that call, but you sound incredibly sensible and calm, you’ve talked it through with a professional you trust, and beyond everything else you are putting Poppy first which is the greatest way to love her, however difficult it is. So sad to read this Karen, and sorry that you're going through such a tough time at the moment. You're in my thoughts, along with everyone else here who is having a difficult Christmas this year.

Sadly my mother has taken a turn for the worst, and i have to fly out tomorrow to be with her and to help with her care. This means I have to leave Poppy and my OH to navigate Monday on their own. I know he will deal with it with loving kindness and sensitivity, but I am so so sad about it.

There's been a definite change in Poppy today; this afternoon and evening she has suddenly been much quieter and has spent most of the afternoon and evening sleeping. She sometimes looks as though she wants to eat, but then turns her head away - today she has eaten next to nothing. I think her time is close.

@MellowYellow I’m so sorry that your mom has taken a turn for the worse and now you’re unable to follow through with your original plan.
