When I got up this morning, Rourke could hardly walk and looked very sorry for himself, he then vomited and did not want to eat anything. A friend came and we took him to the vet (I have a new Honda Jazz automatic and find it very scary, have never driven an automatic before). Vet thinks it was due to the new NSAID he was taking, he just cannot take them for more than about 15 days before he has a reaction. This is serious as he has bad arthritis, is very lame now so I dread to think of the future. Vet gave anti sickness medication and Tramadol and then just as were were leaving, Rourke had explosive diarrhoea all over the reception area and then again when outside, so he was kept in and put on a drip. I went to fetch him at 5.15pm disconnected the drip, took him outside and he immediately had explosive diarrhoea. As my vet does not do out of hours any more, the vet took him to emergency vet in Worcester, about 7 miles away. He was put on a drip there and the bill JUST for being at emergency vet and the drip is £410!! That is not counting what it cost today at vet. I am insured but will have to pay quite a lot as we have to pay first £120 a year and I bet we straddle two years, so that will be £240 excess then 20% of the rest of the bill. Poor Rourke, he is only just seven years old and doesn't deserve to have such pain, vet said it is genetic, both shoulders and LH hock.
