Do you have a plan what to do? Do you have someone for backup?
This forum is just the very best - I had a very generous offer from another member to avoid Sky going to the kennels which I am very moved by. She is however booked in with Red to the kennels and they will be together. My daughter lives nearby and she will be the emergency contact and I know she would respond if necessary. I am definitely taking Sky to the vets on our return for a reassessment. Today she has had her maximum dose of Meloxidyl for the first time ever. She is resting but looks quite perky.

My neighbour has her own dog and although she is great at coming in if we are out for the evening, she is relatively new to being a dog owner and doesn’t really understand the difficulties that arise with an elderly dog.

Thank you again everyone for your support - it is good to share a problem and have everyone’s thoughts.

I was due to take Sky to the vets this morning for a review. Instead DH took her as I had a phone call from my 97 year old mum in the small hours and had to take her to A&E. I have just got home - mum is ok - a lengthy and pretty exhausting number of hours but the hospital staff were absolutely fantastic. Anyway back to Sky! She is now 28kg which I guessed she would be - her walks are becoming shorter and shorter. The vet checked her over and DH asked all the questions we had discussed last evening. Fortunately, I had written everything down (more as an aide memoir for me but worth doing as it helped him make sure nothing was forgotten). I am reassured by the vets comments and to know we are still doing the best we can for her. DH was very impressed with our new vet and also that the cost of the check, advice and written prescription was considerably less than our previous vets.

Gosh, what a stressful night! Sorry your mum had to visit the hospital but relieved she was well looked after, and the outcome appears pretty positive. Good news your new vet sounds very thorough and caring :)
