Yeah! It's a bit tough. I'm thinking we may get to a decision point in the next few months. Lockdown doesn't help either as the vet is only open for meds and emergencies so I can't just pop in for a bit of advice etc. Can't get any physio either of course.

Is she still on Tramadol? If so, could it be the effect of that and not nerve damage? Am just thinking outside the box. Rourke is doing very well (up to this moment) on 5mg prednisolone every other day. It is the only medication he can take. I am very sorry to read abut your beloved dog and hope for the very best. I spoke to my vet yesterday, by accident, pressed the wrong number and we had quite a chat, I am sure you could phone for some advice, vets are seeing patients.

Yes she is - 1 x 75mg twice a day plus 1 x 300mg gabapentin three times a day and 28kg dose of Metacam once a day. I tried tapering her off the tramadol (vet said you don't really need to taper with dogs but I did anyway) and she was ok for a while then the back pain kicked in again.

Yes I'm sure I can call for advice. I'll leave it until Monday and give them a call. Lady's regular vet isn't in on Fridays and I'd rather talk to him especially as he has a real soft spot for Lady. When she was having her last acute attack he got down on the floor and cuddled her!

I really feel sad for you, it's not easy having a dog that's nearing the end of their life.

With Cassie I know we're on borrowed time. So I'm taking a leaf from her book and living day by day. We get good days and bad days.
If I street walk her too far ( which is just around the block) I can see her dragging her back paw, I know we've done too much. Same if I sit in the garden, she's more active when we're outside and this can make her worse.
However I thank my stars every single morning that I still have her and as my OH says " what Cassie wants , Cassie gets. "
What I'm trying to say is, try not to dwell on what's going to happen, maybe tomorrow, next week or next month but try to concentrate on making Lady's life as comfortable and happy as you can.
The memories we make with our dogs are what they leave behind, so please try and find a way to make them the best memories ever.

Just got back from a short afternoon toilet walk - about 500m. Very slow and she lay down in a field that was also full of lambs with their mums. She was quite interested in them of course. I think she's still quite content just watching the world go by. Pretty sure there is no discomfort when she's not moving. Doesn't help that she's also now very nearly stone deaf. I spent a little while today giving her a good brushing and plucking. Got loads of under thatch out (now on a guilt trip for not having brushed her more). Bearing in mind she's physically pretty much had it, her coat is remarkably free of grey hairs.

As long as she's still content it's all ok really.

Yes I so do agree! Thank you and everybody else for such kind posts.
