The great 15 minute wee (rinse and repeat)

During the no-walks lockdown, I couldn’t believe how much wee could come out in a single stream! Usually Snowie kept his wee for marking. But with no opportunity to mark, he’d now wee in one go. It sounded like a torrent. And the smell!! In the heat of the day, the odor would waft up.

When in Regensburg where I have to go out with him because no garden, Carbon can easily have a last wee at 5pm and not get out again until 11:00 am the next day. Brogan was the same. Great for long-haul flight training. Or lazy Mama Ladies who don't appreciate going out in bad weather. 😂

The difference between what he normally does and what he's been doing the past few days is peeing like a race horse for five minutes vs standing there for 15 minutes with little dribbles coming out. And his poor dejected tail signaling a none too pleased pooch.

However today he seems right as rain. I can't believe that an antibiotic would work so quickly, even if it was a UTI. But if it was a stone and he's passed it, I would have thought he'd have been much more painful. I've had kidney stones and the only thing worse I've ever felt was burn dressing changes. Maybe not so painful for a dog? It's a mystery.

I'll continue to watch him carefully and see how he goes. As long as a GA isn't required, I think I'd still like to do the scan even if he seems fine. In the meanwhile, just happy that he seems so much better. 😁

Crikey, Our 2 get up in the middle of the night & wee. Or poo. Or sniff the air.
I'd happily do that here in Cornwall with an enclosed garden - if Carbon asked me which he doesn't - but no way am I doing that in -10 weather in Regensburg. Or even worse during summer weekend drinking nights when the streets get a bit too wild. I'd rather let Carbon just go on the fake wood floor in the studio and I clean it up. The power of kitchen roll and bin bags!

It is lovely to have a last evening wee here in Cornwall - or in Ireland when we visit - because on a clear night it's just gorgeous to go out with him and look at the stars. I'd probably never just stand and enjoy the view without Carbon and Brogan before him. :)

Yes, I enjoy Joy's just before bed wees for the same reason, the peace, looking at the stars. I'm not even convinced she needs to go, but I like to look outside before I go to bed.

Tatze is the same. She has three wees a day. 7am. 3pm and 10pm.

Initially I was, like, WOW! But actually, come to think of it, before lockdown, Snowie only weed on his two walks (a million markings) - morning and late afternoon walk - plus one wee before bed around 9-10pm (must include a treat otherwise he won’t go!!). He might’ve weed after breakfast at around 6am but I never paid attention pre-lockdown. Now, I know his every poo and wee!!

Carbon has been on his super duper antibiotics for three days now and I'm feeling pretty confident that the problem was indeed a UTI, even if it didn't show up in his urine. He seems completely normal now, back to his normal marathon morning wees with his equine-like stream. No post-wee leakage either. I'm thinking if he's still doing well this afternoon that I will call the vet and cancel tomorrow's scan. It may still be a good idea to get the scan anyway, so I'll ask if we should do that - maybe after he's completed his AB course.

Now that I've switched his food out to fresh steamed veggies and fruit plus a smaller amount of protein, he's also drinking and pooing normally. I'm guessing that the commercial raw diet was simply too much protein for him, no matter that it is a special formulation for low purine and low protein. Live and learn!
