The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Our last day in Florence, amigos! I must say, after walking 10 miles yesterday according to Señor Apple Watch, both ML and are a a leeetle on the tired side today. We went to see la maravillosa Señora Cecilia at ML’s Italian school, then had a gentle walk around town, then went home where we are now having a siesta.

It is loco out there, so many people and cars, so we will wait until 8pm when only the locals are left and it is calmer. Then a pequeño wee on my favorite corner, a jaunt around the cathedral, and that is all done for Florencia!

Tomorrow will be crowded at the station, but ML got me an executive seat, which is supposed to be even better than first class, so we hope to travel in quiet and comfort for my weary paws.

We do not know what is waiting for us in Venice - the leeetle apartment looks quite cosy but has a low score, whatever human silliness that is, but we will just go day by day. If we miss the comforts of the TARDIS too much, ML says I only need to say the word and she will magically whisk us away to Pasty Land a week early.

But quizas, maybe, I will embrace Venitian life and fall madly in love with a beautiful gondolier dog? Stranger things have happened, no?

Neither ML or I will miss the stairs to our apartment

Stunning pics. I mean, where were you crouching to get the top of the tower in the sky?! Carbon looks as magnificent as ever.
Ah, the magic of an iPhone! I was lucky to barely get the tip of the tower as I always forget to lift up the camera and end up with acres of pavement on the bottom of the frame and the important tourist bits cut off up top. Someday I’ll actually take one of the many photography courses I keep signing up for. 😂

Hola todos! Ojalá, I hope you all had a Feliz Navidad! ML and I are being very serious about doing nothing these two days, just having some nice walks where I am NOT working and can go wherever I want and sniff whatever I want. Maybe I cannot WEE on whatever I want, ML draws the line there, but otherwise we are either walking or sitting on the sofa for a siesta. Maybe tomorrow we will do something more important, or maybe not!

Our leeetle house is really very leeetle, especially since we decided not to use the loft bedroom. The bed was very comfy, but the stairs were too scary for me. I went up, then I could not come down! Last night we tried sleeping on the sofa in the leeeving room (which is also the kitchen and the dining room). It is a very big sofa and ML is very short, so she thought we could just sleep there without making it into a bed. After all, we did survive four months of sleeping on an air mattress this year which makes us practically impervious to bad beds.

But que lastima, it was a bit of a squeeze, seeing how even a large sofa is perhaps not a match for a round ML and a Señor who sleeps under the covers and likes to spread out a bit. I am trying to convince ML to try to actually make the sofa into a sofa bed tonight but who knows. If she falls into a coma watching Netflix before she makes up my bed properly, it may be another night using her backside as a pillow. Which is not as nearly as soft and squishy as you would think by looking at her!

Otherwise we are enjoying the quiet of Venice. Sí, sí, there are lots of tourists here, but really only in the big square with the Christmas tree. Our neighbourhood is by the only park in Venice and one of the last mainly no-tourist areas on the island, so it is not crowded at all. Our little house is a renovated workman's house, which means ground floor entry from the street, up on flight of stairs to a small room with bathroom, sofa, and kitchen corner. The loft with the bed is a new addition: in the old days this one room would have been the whole house. We both like that there is no one under or above us as it means I can have mini-zoomies playing with my Monkey and will disturb no one. It also means no one moving furniture above us at 2am, which seems to always be a thing in Florence. I love Italy, but it can be weird!

ML keeps telling me that we might go to the beach tomorrow. Cruzamos los dedos, cross your fingers for me, amigos, because I haven't gone to the beach since August and I would surely love to get my gentlemanly toes in the sand!

Here I am on the vaporetto where I must wear a muzzle. Do not worry for me and my sad face, I actually love wearing the muzzle because it means I get lots of treats. Plus it is very stylish, being a legacy from my proud predecessor , Señor Brogan.

ML calls this my Resting Misery Face. I call it taking my modeling job veeeery seriously as only a gentleman can!

How lovely!!! When I was in Florence a million years ago (I studied Italian for a month with not much progress!!), I read Irving Stone’s book about Michelangelo. It was such a fantastic way to bring the city and his works to life. I visited every museum where he described a work. I’m sure you know Florence inside out. But if you’re looking for a read, my 26-year-old self highly recommends it!
That was the book that inspired me to go to Florence!
