The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Today’s Big Walk was at the Perranporth dunes where there are some interesting ruins of very old (1000 AD) churches. Because we had a full sunny day, everyone was out with their humans , which meant I got to play and play. Qué bien! ML says we earned our dinner and sofa cuddle time tonight!

Here I am offering a captivating smile in front of the ruins of the oldest church. It kept getting covered in sand, so eventually the important bits were moved inland, so only the foundation is still there.

A Celtic cross - we saw lots of these on our trips to Ireland

Here is the other church, almost completely under water today - usually it is only a little wet, but today it was more like an outdoor swimming pool!

Zoooooooomies!

Another big smile overlooking the bay. Perranporth is a very long and wide beach, more like what I am used to from Spain and California than the typical beach here in Cornwall. I am a beach expert , you know. There were lots of surfers today - maybe ML will take ME surfing this week ! I am ready to put on my wetsuit and ride the waves!

Looks beautiful down there Señor!
Much better than the grey driech day we had up here.
It has been so sunny! And you could say that ML and I do not deserve it as we have not suffered through all the rain lately as the Cornish people have. But maybe you could also say that we brought some Italian sun with us to share!

Today is brrrrrrr frio - cold! I am but a Spanish gentleman and not used to such temperatures. The mud yesterday was frozen and there was ice instead of puddles, today our roof is snowy white.

For me, now that my tummy is full with deleeeecious breakfast, I will take my nap and keep my paw over my nose to keep it warm. If ML wants to go out, she can go alone!

Oooo amigos, we were very brave going out in 3C weather today! Vale, ok, it was very sunny and beeeeeuuutiful, but still qué frio, how cold.

I took ML into Padstow, where I got a cookie at Mountain Hardware. We also wanted to get GGJ’s ML something special at my other favorite shop but they were closed, like many places in Padstow in January. We will try again, amiga @Candy!

Then we shared a sandwich on a nice bench overlooking the estuary. We both like this place because on our first trip together to Cornwall right after our escape from prison trip from Spain, ML and I sat in the same place and she wished she could live someplace so nice with a dog as wonderful as ME.

And guess what? Ojalá, she has ME forever AND we get to live here part of the year. Qué bien, how good, sí? It is nice to sit in the same park every year and be thankful.

Then we went to the beach and I ran and ran and met lots of very nice and polite dogs. What a good walk!

We also found an orange on the beach. We do not understand it, but we ALWAYS find an orange on the beach. Spain, France, Ireland, now Cornwall. Where are these oranges coming from? Amigos, it is one of life’s great mysteries.

The orange.

Ah, the benefits of having an ML who no longer stares at a computer all day to earn my food! Porqué? Because we get to go on a Big Walk every day now, that is why!

Today we walked from Holywell beach to Poly Joke beach and then through a lot of sheep and murderous cows (that is what ML calls them, quien sabe, who knows why).

I got to chase my ball: weeeee! And play with a loca spaniel puppy named Molly. Molly’s ML told my ML all about adders in the dunes. Then we walked in the dunes to get to the coastal trail. It was not relaxing , even if the señora said adders are sleeping in January. Pfft! Walk quietly so we do not wake them up!

Por fin, what was more scary was that apparently ML can no longer tell time and we nearly got stuck in a cow field in the dark. We had to walk muy rapido, really fast, to get back to the TARDIS: our legs were BURNING! Que aventura!

On Holywell beach with my ball.

Weeeeee! Best amigos on the best of beaches, Porthcothan! Reuben and Nelly came to visit me today. Auntie Kate had mucho patience and threw the ball over and over for us.

Qué bien, it also seemed to be Porthcothan Black Labrador Day, because we shared the beach with at least six other black Labradors.

ML nearly took the wrong dog home because she thinks we are all the same. (That is just a little chispa, joke, ML - I know you recognise me n a group of Labradors, though it did take you a couple years.)

Then we went to the Cafe and Auntie Kate and Uncle Paul shared their Full English Breakfast with Reuben and me. Paul even fed me half a fried egg on a fork! I fumbled that as I am not used to a fork, but I appreciate the sentiment. De verdad, an elegant gentleman like me SHOULD learn to use cutlery!

Hola amigos! Yesterday’s Big Walk was such a Big Walk that we are taking a break today, a little Sunday siesta if you will. My leeetle paws need a rest!

Yesterday was our first walk of 2024 with our Cornish walking group, the Strolling Singles. Sí, sí, the name is muy divertido , very humorous, especially as ML had to sign a form attesting to being single to join. And she is also the youngest member by at least a decade.

At first I thought this meant she would be swept off her feet by a handsome retired Cornish farmer - which was not the goal AT ALL of joining a walking group - but it turns out the group is not about romance (gracias a Dios because I really prefer not to share my ML) but rather about walking through muddy fields filled with deleeecious cow and sheep poo. Qué bien, that is a goal I can get behind!

La verdad, ML is muy introverted, so this is her semi-weekly effort to train herself to be more social. Is it working? Pfft! No! But she has a very hard head and keeps trying. And that is how we ended up stomping around cow fields near Falmouth yesterday. Ojalá!

Here we are behind dog amigo Jake. He tried to eat me on our first walk, but he likes me now. Mostly.

We had our midpoint break at a small church.

It had pretty windows…

…and the first PINK church door we have seen in Cornwall.

ML took this photo of palm trees in Falmouth for Cookie Man in California who keeps asking how they do not freeze when it is 0C. Palm trees are tougher than you think!

And back at home, I still only have two of my stuffy amigos, Gerry Giraffe and Murphy Moose. Why is she hiding my Monkey? Because @M.F. gave her the idea of filming our reunion and she wants to bring Monkey out ‘at the perfect time’. Pfft! Viva la libertad! Free Monkey, free Monkey!
