Spencer eats leaves

We had a great day with Emily and Carbón. Spencer fell in love with Carbón immediately, he’s such a lovely boy - and GOOD at playing. Spencer says can we swap Tatze for him, she’s rubbish at playing, more - she’s more like a mummy.

A run in the park then a walk by the canal followed by fish and chips in the pub followed by coffee back at the cute little cottage. Perfect.

Here is Carbón modelling his fabulous new defence against the WetFromAbove and me waiting for the train to go home with designs on dognapping Carbón

I love the photos, @Boogie / Mags! That one of Carbon in his raincoat - he looks quite confused. :D

Today we met up with @snowbunny 's Squidge's cousin Cara and her human, Mike. I met Mike last year when I was doing my breeder search. Carbon LOVED Cara. Lots of bitey face happened, and Carbon got to do some dummy retrieving at a nearby lake. He's come a long way from the dog that I was sure would drown when swimming for only the second time during the Severnside walkies in June.

I stayed way too late at Mike's and then had to trek past Hadrian's Wall at 11pm to find my little airbnb annex. Thank goodness my buddy Rose in Ireland gave me the idea to buy a flashlight for my bag because baby, it's dark out here. I think I'm on a farm in Northumberland somewhere, but I am just as likely in Cumbria. Or is there such a thing as northeast Yorkshire? Really, who knows. Now it's way past bed as we've got two dog meet ups tomorrow, one with a Bodeguero I met in Spain before her UK adoption and another with the breeder I almost had a puppy from last year. Goodness knows what Carbon will think of all that!

Gosh...trekking past Hadrian’s wall past 11PM sounds kinda romantic and scary all at once!
The drive was fine, though I really dislike driving at night. I don't see well and with the driver's side of my car being on the left, the lights of oncoming cars seem too bright and often do an an odd visual trick of appearing to be coming at me in my own lane. I'm getting a little better at it, but it's really not pleasant. Considering that it's now pitch dark at 4pm, however, it's really hard to avoid night driving this time of year!

It's frustrating that I drove by the sign for Hadrian's Wall but won't have time to go see it. I keep telling myself that I don't have to see everything on every trip, but old kamikaze tourism habits die hard. :wasntme:

The most difficult thing about arriving so late last night was trying to figure out how to get into my little annex without disturbing the main house occupants who were already asleep. The whole house was dark and I was wondering around with my flashlight shining it in windows trying to sort out which doors were 'mine' and which were the main house. Honestly, a little sign saying "Guest entrance" would have be SO helpful. As would have heating and hot water that worked. It's a cute little place, but I skipped a shower and slept in my street clothes to stay warm. Reminded me of my old youth hostel days, though to be fair if I would have had such a nice - and private - room in my youth hostel days I would have thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

I'm just hoping that once the family is up this morning, the heating will roar to life. Otherwise it's a perfume shower for me this morning and hiding my hair under my hat. Thank goodness I bought that hat in Ireland, what a good investment it's been. :giggl:

Would love to see some Northumbrian scenery...:listening:
I got some good doggie and a few scenery shots yesterday at Talkin Tarn with Mike and Cara. Technically that's Cumbria, but maybe it'll do? And of course, let's see what today brings. Maybe no scenery, but Bodeguero and Labrador photos for sure!

Wow! Sounds like a brilliant day for you both yesterday, and Carbon got to do a little fun gundoggery! I am hoping you get to your lodgings tonight at a more respectable time so you can both rest, and maybe a few snaps of the scenery?

Today was a mixed bag of traveling madness. I was off early from my little annex bolthole, having never seen the house owner. The heat did kick in this morning, but too late to save me from sleeping in four layers of clothes or to take a shower. Dry shampoo and perfume to the rescue! I know...ew!!

The scenery was pretty, though...

After that it was a short drive to Corbridge where I met up with Minnie the Bod/Min Pin and her lovely human. Minnie was a dog who I had the honour of meeting in Spain last spring before she made her long trek to her forever family here in the UK (back then her name was Marea).

Her human fought tooth and nail to get this little girl home and what a lucky pup she is. Although when I met her she was already in a loving foster home, she has made such progress since May that I would not have recognised her. She now is fit and sleek, curious, makes eye contact, has that Bod sense of humour and is a pro at relaxing on her mat at her local coffee house.

It was a real pleasure to finally meet her human who had made it all happen. I told her about the forum and how we already had @Aitch 's Alex and need some more Bods to go with our Labs and assorted other pups, so maybe she'll pop in one of these days!

Then it was off to see the Yorkshire breeder with whom I'd reserved a puppy last year and ultimately made the very hard decision that I wasn't ready. While I really like the breeder and was glad she was up for a purely social visit - no puppy searches this time - it was bittersweet to see 'the puppy who wasn't' 's mum and all her other sweet girls. Not only are they beautiful dual-purpose working gun dogs, but they have what I call the Cuddle Gene. All these girls just want to be curled up with you, which I adore. I couldn't help but think about what could have been and where I would be with my own dog now had a following through on taking my puppy home in March as planned. In a lot of ways, it's been a tough year.

On the other hand, I was very proud of Carbon handled himself with the girls. They are so well socialised that I doubt that they would fail to welcome any dog into their house and group, but Carbon stepped right in with his usual playful flirting.

Here he is meeting Neige, former puppy mum...

All too soon, it was time for me to be off into the dark rainy evening to find my lodgings What a mess! While I was lucky to find a little flat only 20 minutes from the breeder's house, the house number didn't show on my sat nav or Google. I drove past where it was three times and finally parked the car and just walked down the high street trying to find it. Soaked and dripping like a leaky faucet, I ended up going into a pub and throwing myself on the mercy of the locals for directions.

Once I did find the place, it was self-check in where you had to go through three coded doors. No keys, just codes into keypads in the dark and in the rain. Thank goodness for my Irish-bought flashlight. I honestly felt like I was trying to break into a women's prison or some such with all the weird keypads. The flat itself is soul-less with an abundance of dusty fake flowers, but it's clean and the shower was excellent. Finally, clean hair!!!

Carbon has already gone to bed ages ago, so now it's my turn. Hopefully a good night's sleep and then a long five hour drive back to luxuriate in the welcome friendliness of @Beanwood.

Thank goodness!

And an added bonus of the long drive tomorrow is that I can plot on how to kidnap kitty Stoli. I LOVE that little guy - he is the world's best snuggler.

Do you think Kate would notice if he was suddenly gone? :wasntme:
