Today was a mixed bag of traveling madness. I was off early from my little annex bolthole, having never seen the house owner. The heat did kick in this morning, but too late to save me from sleeping in four layers of clothes or to take a shower. Dry shampoo and perfume to the rescue! I know...ew!!
The scenery was pretty, though...
After that it was a short drive to Corbridge where I met up with Minnie the Bod/Min Pin and her lovely human. Minnie was a dog who I had the honour of meeting in Spain last spring before she made her long trek to her forever family here in the UK (back then her name was Marea).
Her human fought tooth and nail to get this little girl home and what a lucky pup she is. Although when I met her she was already in a loving foster home, she has made such progress since May that I would not have recognised her. She now is fit and sleek, curious, makes eye contact, has that Bod sense of humour and is a pro at relaxing on her mat at her local coffee house.
It was a real pleasure to finally meet her human who had made it all happen. I told her about the forum and how we already had
@Aitch 's Alex and need some more Bods to go with our Labs and assorted other pups, so maybe she'll pop in one of these days!

Then it was off to see the Yorkshire breeder with whom I'd reserved a puppy last year and ultimately made the very hard decision that I wasn't ready. While I really like the breeder and was glad she was up for a purely social visit - no puppy searches this time - it was bittersweet to see 'the puppy who wasn't' 's mum and all her other sweet girls. Not only are they beautiful dual-purpose working gun dogs, but they have what I call the Cuddle Gene. All these girls just want to be curled up with you, which I adore. I couldn't help but think about what could have been and where I would be with my own dog now had a following through on taking my puppy home in March as planned. In a lot of ways, it's been a tough year.
On the other hand, I was very proud of Carbon handled himself with the girls. They are so well socialised that I doubt that they would fail to welcome any dog into their house and group, but Carbon stepped right in with his usual playful flirting.

And finally enjoying a quick romp around the breeder's pond...
All too soon, it was time for me to be off into the dark rainy evening to find my lodgings What a mess! While I was lucky to find a little flat only 20 minutes from the breeder's house, the house number didn't show on my sat nav or Google. I drove past where it was three times and finally parked the car and just walked down the high street trying to find it. Soaked and dripping like a leaky faucet, I ended up going into a pub and throwing myself on the mercy of the locals for directions.
Once I did find the place, it was self-check in where you had to go through three coded doors. No keys, just codes into keypads in the dark and in the rain. Thank goodness for my Irish-bought flashlight. I honestly felt like I was trying to break into a women's prison or some such with all the weird keypads. The flat itself is soul-less with an abundance of dusty fake flowers, but it's clean and the shower was excellent. Finally, clean hair!!!
Carbon has already gone to bed ages ago, so now it's my turn. Hopefully a good night's sleep and then a long five hour drive back to luxuriate in the welcome friendliness of
@Beanwood.
Thank goodness!
And an added bonus of the long drive tomorrow is that I can plot on how to kidnap kitty Stoli. I LOVE that little guy - he is the world's best snuggler.
Do you think Kate would notice if he was suddenly gone?
