Do you think Carbon settles more quickly and more completely if you sit in a chair and look at your tablet rather than on the floor with him? I wonder if he sees you being on the floor with him as a sign that you want to engage, either by stroking or perhaps with play?

The sitting on the floor with him for massages was mainly to condition him to the 'mat is a good place' idea. Now I can focus more on changing my location to a more real-world option (sitting on the chair) and do less reinforcement (massage) and more Kindle. That'll be this week's focus.

Also I just had my session with our trainer and I really misunderstood the task from last week. It wasn't "five locations a day", it was build up over the week to five locations. Oops. :$

On the bright side, Donna said he did really well considering the confusion I wrought by moving his mat around constantly.

Just a quick note (yeah: "ha, ha") to say that I've been hiding out under my covers with Carbon and reading brainless romance novels since we went unto lockdown on Tuesday. I just kind of shut down mentally, but gave myself until today, Saturday to hide then it needed to be business as usual.

Now I get to dive in to all the forum action from the past week: I hope everyone is staying healthy and coping with this whole thing in whatever way works best for you. Thank you to whomever added me to the Skype group - I'd love to join in next time.

Carbon is doing really well and doesn't seem to know that he's on lockdown. Ignorance is bliss. Mainly he's just spoiled rotten by Cookie Man and is a very happy doggie.

Sending out lots of healing Carbon besitos to all our human and doggie friends. 😘😘😘

Thank you for all the nice messages. Very glad to hear from everyone. ❤

What exact does lockdown mean for you guys @Emily_Babbelhund ? Are you allowed out with Carbon at all?
We are allowed out to go for groceries, medication (so the pharmacy) and for medical appointments. Outdoor exercise is fine as long as you go solo and maintain 6 feet social distance or go with members of your household. Less clear is if it is ok to travel to that outdoor exercise, i.e. get in the car to drive to the beach or the hills. So far I've chosen to take Carbon to a nearby park on foot, but it's so crowded that even wearing my mask I almost feel it would be safer to get in the car and travel to a remote location for our daily walk. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Honestly, people are not yet taking it as seriously as they should. Right now I get the feeling that a lot of people are taking it as "Woo hoo, we're on holiday!!!". Even my father was very "Meh" the first days: always some 'essential' shopping trip he had to make that wasn't essential at all. Now he's on board, however, so I'm relieved about that.

Ironically the reason for coming - caring for Donna - has been made pretty moot. Out of caution, we no longer go over to see her unless we're on the care schedule and her number of carers has been reduced. I'm on the schedule for two days next week, but even that may be cancelled.

But the important thing is that she's doing really well, that's the good news! 😊
