We made it and the little apartment is very sweet. Carbon did wonderful on his first vaporetto ride even if he thought the muzzle a very bad idea. I'm using Brogan's spare muzzle and it's of course too big for Carbon so he can simply push it off with his paw. Not very effective but then again Carbon doesn't need a muzzle and no one really cares as long as it's SOMEWHERE in the general vicinity of the dog.
I was very proud of him on the boat. A completely new experience, lagoon spray coming up over the side, a bumpy ride, wind in his face and he just laid there and took it all in like a pro.
Dinner was eaten and Bunny was enthusiastically greeted coming out of my backpack. All seemed well with the world and then we went out for a little stroll before bed. We didn't make it far before Carbon started limping and then outright laying down and biting on his foot. I took the shoe and sock off thinking it may be pinching him and the whole bandage came off at the same time. Sigh. I thought that may help regardless - a little fresh air and all that. Nope. Limping got worse and so did the laying down and refusing to move. I more or less dragged him back home as there was no other solution.
Once back I gave him a new bandage change. Neither of us is very happy, especially as this is his fourth dressing change today as he kept puling off his dressing in the car. He's now shaking all over including the foot. Today was a LOT for Carbon and I honestly suspect it may be anxiety vs. pain. He's a tough nut to crack but every dog has his limits.
Nothing I can do tonight and hopefully tomorrow will bring a brighter outlook and a healthier foot. If not, I know where the vet is thanks to time spent in Venice with Brogan. However, let's hope we have a nice calm day of quiet strolls and lots of foot resting (for both of us!) while enjoying the view from a bench.
