The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Well, it was a lovely start to the day but I managed to blow a tire coming into a rest stop. The hole is so big that I can stick two fingers in it. Tire dead and no spare. I've called road service which will take another 90 minutes and they can only take me to a nearby repair shop.

No idea if I will get to Venice tonight. I called the owner of the flat who will leave the keys in case we can get in late tonight. I need some serious good auto repair vibes coming my way. Not the kind of mess that is serious to life or limb, but still not the best start to Carbon's and my Venice adventure. I guess it's another kind of adventure, huh?!

It looks fantastic! How do you find such interesting places?!
I picked up a brochure at a Salzburg hotel a couple years ago. It was just after Brogan passed and I had more interest in seeing the animals than Salzburg so I went. I love that you can take your own dog there. The visit with Carbon was kind of in honour of Brogan. He would have loved it.

We made it and the little apartment is very sweet. Carbon did wonderful on his first vaporetto ride even if he thought the muzzle a very bad idea. I'm using Brogan's spare muzzle and it's of course too big for Carbon so he can simply push it off with his paw. Not very effective but then again Carbon doesn't need a muzzle and no one really cares as long as it's SOMEWHERE in the general vicinity of the dog.

I was very proud of him on the boat. A completely new experience, lagoon spray coming up over the side, a bumpy ride, wind in his face and he just laid there and took it all in like a pro.

Dinner was eaten and Bunny was enthusiastically greeted coming out of my backpack. All seemed well with the world and then we went out for a little stroll before bed. We didn't make it far before Carbon started limping and then outright laying down and biting on his foot. I took the shoe and sock off thinking it may be pinching him and the whole bandage came off at the same time. Sigh. I thought that may help regardless - a little fresh air and all that. Nope. Limping got worse and so did the laying down and refusing to move. I more or less dragged him back home as there was no other solution.

Once back I gave him a new bandage change. Neither of us is very happy, especially as this is his fourth dressing change today as he kept puling off his dressing in the car. He's now shaking all over including the foot. Today was a LOT for Carbon and I honestly suspect it may be anxiety vs. pain. He's a tough nut to crack but every dog has his limits.

Nothing I can do tonight and hopefully tomorrow will bring a brighter outlook and a healthier foot. If not, I know where the vet is thanks to time spent in Venice with Brogan. However, let's hope we have a nice calm day of quiet strolls and lots of foot resting (for both of us!) while enjoying the view from a bench.

Carbon is back to his normal bouncy hungry self this morning, so it's brekkie time and then we'll see how he does on a little walk. I wanted to be up at about at 7am but at the same time chose not to set the alarm as I thought we both needed as much sleep as our bodies would let us have. As a result we're getting started two hours later but hopefully better refreshed and ready for a full day of amazing sights.

Thanks again for all the good thoughts as my car was doing its thing yesterday. It all ended very well and was never anything dangerous, but it's one of those things that is more bothersome when you are on your own and trying to sort it out for the first time. It helped a lot to feel that you all were virtually along for the ride. :giggle:

So brekkie and medication for Carbon, a shower for me and we're going to hit the road in Venice. Thankfully with FEET instead of my car.
