The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Oh mis amigos, ML has made it all sound very dire, but I am telling you, it is all in a day's adventure for your guapo gentleman! I used to walk through the other dogs at the shelter like a hot knife through butter, even though most of them towered over me. But did it matter to me? No! I am small but mighty. Pues, well, and also I believed - as it turns out erroneously - that I was a very tall galgo at the time, and that certainly helped a lot too.

Pero bueno, I was not too keen on Jake giving me a shake when I was just minding my business, but I recovered very quickly. We were in the field in the middle of nowhere - this seems to happen to ML and I a lot lately - and we had to finish the walk to get back to our querido TARDIS, so after I had a cleansing poo (highly recommended to relive stress), I continued on and did not give it another thought. Vale, ok, I did give Jake some dirty looks and maybe that was ungentlemanly of me, but a caballero has his pride.

The important thing about this weekend was a visit with Reuben and his chicken. That was the BEST! I LOVE that chicken with all my corazon! And my mejor amigo Reuben too, claro que si, of course!

What kind of dog is Jake?? The picking up and shaking (a dog the size of a Labrador!) sounds horrific. I would not have been able to continue the walk with them, worried that Jake’s owner would not be able to control him. Carbon sounds like he is truly bombproof.

How is Carbon today @Emily_Babbelhund. I hope he is well
Carbon is fine today, Cath. And honestly he was already fine about 10 minutes after the dust up with Jake albeit a bit limpy. As @kateincornwall can attest, he was totally his normal toy-thief self at her house yesterday. I probably shouldn't even have mentioned it, but it was part of Carbon's point of view of the walk on Saturday and made a big impression on me so I just kind of went with it. I didn't mean to worry everyone. He really is fine!

I guess because I've had my dogs out in public so much, this stuff just kind of happens sometimes. Brogan was picked up by a Maremma shepherd once and I thought that was the end of both of us, but it taught me a lot about dog fights. Yes, it scared the pants off me during the moment, but quickly seeing that Carbon wasn't injured and then also that after his cleansing poo (that was a little weird!) he was 100% his normal tail-wagging self, I just kind of got on with things.

I do wish Jake's owner would have understood that he needed to keep away from us for the rest of the walk, as it took some stealthy dog-wrangling to keep us apart from them. He felt really badly about the whole thing and wanted the two to immediately kiss and make up and that was NOT happening on lead. And you know, Carbon would have likely had a good play with Jake off lead, but I personally wasn't ready for that (I'm not as bullet-proof as Carbon) and also we needed to keep dogs on lead during the walk.

Jake was a very large husky and collie mix. Absolutely gorgeous and very friendly with me and clearly a beloved long-time participant in the group walks whereas we were the new interlopers. They had been walking nearly together for about an hour already when Jake grabbed Carbon, so I'm really not sure what set him off. He didn't get Carbon fully off the ground, but grabbed Carbon's haunches in his mouth and got in a few good shakes before he gave up. He didn't actually want to hurt Carbon because he could have inflicted massive damage in the time he had him, if had he wanted to. It was a lot of noise and posturing. Scary for sure, but ultimately just posturing.

If I do another walk with them, we should probably just let the two off lead to play as I think it was mainly down to them being on lead. However I'm not sure I could deal with that myself. I'm 99% they would have a good wrestle and be done with it, but that 1% doubt could be dangerous, so I'd not be too happy to go there. 😳

Maybe, but I’m not sure that I would want to risk it either, especially with a dog larger than Carbon! Wispa is much happier meeting other dogs off-lead when we’re out, but there’s always the thought that something could go wrong…

ML and I went on a special Friday Before Easter walk. She is still muy gorda despite all my efforts to help her slim down by eating all her food - I am willing to risk my own waistline by taking one for the team. However she can walk very far these days, and much faster! Sometimes I do not even have time to eat all the delicious sheep poo on the path, que lastima!
