The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Carbon and I went to Orvieto today and then settled in for a three hour drive to our next stop on the coast near Piombino. Orvieto was beautiful but Carbon and I have both had it. He spent the visit trying to beg sandwiches off of other tourists and trying to look like he wasn't afraid of the many neighborhood cats and - wimpy me with my cold - I just felt triple pants. Just made that up because I needed something more drama queen than simply pants. :p

I did get some good photos today but forgot to unpack my photo library external drive from the car. There are things out in the dark making funny noises so I am NOT going back out to get it. As Scarlett says, "Tomorrow is another day!" I'm sure she meant that about photo editing as well as the American Civil War and conquering Rhett's heart.

The apartment is really adorable and the garden is much larger than the photos made it appeared. It's also completely enclosed with a lockable gate and lovely green grass. It's set in a leafy gated holiday complex of lots of ground level cottages/apartments but we are the only ones here. It might be a little creepy without Carbon, but he's very good at shouting if anyone comes by who shouldn't. The only thing missing that was in the advert is a washing machine, but we'll live. It's dead quiet, five minutes from the beach and has what looks to be a very comfy bed. I realized today that in my current state I'll never make the six/seven hour drive to Antibes on Sunday - it's time for two days of recuperation for both Carbon and me!

Also while I may feel differently after a good night's rest, I'm feeling like I've reached my maximum Italy time. Sure, I would be fine if I was parked somewhere for a month or so, but the challenges of driving - or worse, public transport - are reaching critical spill level in my brain. Time to actually start going in the correct direction for Ireland and the UK. My ears need a good @Beanwood Benson cleaning.

A bit RnR is what you need missus
Seen any people yet? Are they clothed?
No people at all except the owner who let me in. Forecast is for rain the next couple days so that may keep the nudies indoors. Bet they are here somewhere though. And that they are German. Germans love getting naked and taking walks on the beach. I always wonder...where do they keep their keys?:giggl:

OK, so I'm guessing he has his key somewhere.......since he isn't entirely nude.
And it's ford.
May cheer you up though :)
Ha! This is great! Too bad that zero real people on actual nude beaches look like that. Or maybe I've been to the wrong nude beaches. :giggl:

And before you think that I've been seeking out nude beaches, keep in mind that where I live in Spain nude beach = dog beach so that's why I spend a lot of time at nude beaches wondering where they keep their keys!

I'm glad that you've got a couple of days to rest and recuperate, Emily, and that Carbon has lots of room to stretch his legs.
Thanks, Sophie! This place is great and just what we both need. I slept ages and feel so much better this morning. A couple days of this and I think I'll be ready to tackle the marathon drive to Antibes. :highfive:

Whew! Just got off a mad planning session and I'm ready to roll into France on Saturday to here: Studio juan les pins - Houses for Rent in Antibes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

I'm breaking my cardinal rule of only big drives on Sunday because the friend I'm visiting is very busy with work, so traveling on Saturday means that we can spend the day Sunday together. Hopefully I'll have the luck of the Lambies with me for the seven hour drive from here (Piombino) to Antibes!

he lack of kitchen bench space looks like a challenge, but I'm sure you're a pro at dealing with a kitchenette.
I really only cook for Carbon, so as long as I have a place to chop broccoli and apples, we're good. The bigger challenge in that kitchen is the tiny refrigerator. I've had ones that size before and there's not even space to stand up a water bottle. Drives me bonkers. Why buy such a tiny fridge?? Anyway, we'll survive.

Beyond the practical things (washer, secure car parking, dog-friendly) the real selling feature is the fake fireplace on the wall. @Boogie can tell you, we had one of those at a caravan that she, Keir and I spent the weekend, and I absolutely LOVED staring at that fake fireplace.

It's mesmerising. :xmasspirit:

Good luck on your long drive Emily, hope your cold has finally gone by then, we will all be thinking of you.
Thank you! I do kind of wish I had more time here in this house just to rest up - it's a great place for it - but I think I'll be OK for Saturday. A good nights rest tomorrow and lots of Coke to fuel alertness and it should be fine.

The only thing I'm really worried about is going through Genoa as the bridge that collapsed is right on the main route from here to the Cote d'Azur. Avoiding it adds an extra hour to the journey, but is probably worth taking the time.

Hola todos! I am back! I had a great day, sabes? No leashes, no looking at boring old buildings...just me, a ball and the beach. Si, it rained on us and as we all now know, wet from above = bad, wet from below = good. But you know what, I was already wet so it didn't bother me oh so much.

We even went to a beach that is especially for dogs. This time of year there was no one else there, so that was a bit triste but before all the summer dogs disappeared, one of them left behind a great big soft ball to play with. Muy divertido! Foster lady says we are going back tomorrow, maybe I will find another treasure!

Our house also has a big green garden for me, but sabes I don't find it all that interesting. Foster lady even tried sitting outside with me 'cause she thought that way I'd enjoy the grass, but I went in the house to have a nice snooze on the comfy sofa. I'm not estupido - comfy sofas are better than grass any day!

Here I am playing with the big squishy ball:

And playing with a tennis ball before the rain got us all wet:

We are the ONLY ones here! Do you think the Tardis is lonely?

Now we're here...I've got it all to myself.
