Carbon and I went to Orvieto today and then settled in for a three hour drive to our next stop on the coast near Piombino. Orvieto was beautiful but Carbon and I have both had it. He spent the visit trying to beg sandwiches off of other tourists and trying to look like he wasn't afraid of the many neighborhood cats and - wimpy me with my cold - I just felt triple pants. Just made that up because I needed something more drama queen than simply pants.
I did get some good photos today but forgot to unpack my photo library external drive from the car. There are things out in the dark making funny noises so I am NOT going back out to get it. As Scarlett says, "Tomorrow is another day!" I'm sure she meant that about photo editing as well as the American Civil War and conquering Rhett's heart.
The apartment is really adorable and the garden is much larger than the photos made it appeared. It's also completely enclosed with a lockable gate and lovely green grass. It's set in a leafy gated holiday complex of lots of ground level cottages/apartments but we are the only ones here. It might be a little creepy without Carbon, but he's very good at shouting if anyone comes by who shouldn't. The only thing missing that was in the advert is a washing machine, but we'll live. It's dead quiet, five minutes from the beach and has what looks to be a very comfy bed. I realized today that in my current state I'll never make the six/seven hour drive to Antibes on Sunday - it's time for two days of recuperation for both Carbon and me!
Also while I may feel differently after a good night's rest, I'm feeling like I've reached my maximum Italy time. Sure, I would be fine if I was parked somewhere for a month or so, but the challenges of driving - or worse, public transport - are reaching critical spill level in my brain. Time to actually start going in the correct direction for Ireland and the UK. My ears need a good @Beanwood Benson cleaning.
