The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

I’m hijacking Carbón’s thread again (“Pfft!”) but was just editing today’s photo batch and wanted to share this one especially as Carbón himself chose the location and pose. He’s doing this more and more, and I love it. Ok, ok: his motivation is COOKIES and sometimes his location choices have more to do with a rumbly in his tumbly than any artistic choice, BUT I love what he picked today!

For legal (immigration) reasons, I have to drive all the way back to Germany before I can go to the UK. So…from the nearly most southern tip of Spain, up to San Sebastián, through the middle of France, into Germany, then turn back around and go through Belgium to Calais, over to Folkestone, and down to Padstow.

And then we are NOT MOVING for at least a week. 🤣

Well, except to go see Kate of course. ❤

That’s a lot of audio books worth!

Wow, I do not have your stamina. Perhaps consider trucking if all other work options fail? I once met a Nigerian woman on a plane, flying from the US to the UK. Her story was so inspiring. She started in the US as a truck driver. She made some money and bought a truck. And another. And eventually built up a fleet of trucks. She said she was living the American Dream where hard work paid off. She had a big house and her kids were well educated. She proudly showed me photos on her phone. (Unfortunately, there was the “small” issue of her husband’s visa, so they rendezvoused in the UK.)

I’m the podcast queen. 😁

Have you seen how small the TARDIS is? There’s a reason for that! 🤣

I try to be a safe driver, but I don’t really have any actual skill. And anything bigger than a small SUV (which already loads bigger than my car) sounds terrifying. Heck, I keep having to remind myself to drive on the right side here in Portugal, that’s challenge enough.

That’s an amazing story about the Nigerian-American woman. Good for her. The American Dream is popular as an ideology, but in practice is a rare occurrence.

Hola amigos! We finally found a beach here in the Algarve where I felt like smiling! No, dogs are not allowed, but ML sometimes it is worth it to break the law for a few minutes as long as it does not hurt anyone else. Que bien!

It is hard to believe, but tomorrow is our last day in Portugal. We have seen some muy guapo things, but I will be happier going back to my homeland. And by that, I mean Cornwall.

No, no, I keeeed, I kid. I mean SPAIN! We will see some human amigos, eat some churros and Salmorejo (not together, that would be not so deleeeecious), and visit some dog-friendly beaches in Conil. Ojalá!

Here are a few more photos from yesterday and today.

I know this is off topic @Emily_Babbelhund but hoping all your family and friends are safe in those awful Californian fires xx
It’s horrible, isn’t it? 🥺 I’m from Northern California and don’t know anyone who lives in the south. To give you a context for the distance between the two areas, from my father’s house it would be about an 8 hour drive to where the fires are.

The most recent bad fires have been more in the north, but it’s a shared danger for all of California, usually more in summer and fall.

@Emily_Babbelhund ~Forgot to post this yesterday! Super photos. Am I correct in thinking that Portugal did not quite come up to your expectations and it will not be your retirement place?
Yes, you’re right. While I’m really grateful that I had this opportunity to visit Portugal and it is of course a beautiful country, my feeling at the moment is that it is not a place I would want to live, or even visit again unless it was a short along-the-way-to-somewhere-else stop.

However never say never - life can take you to some surprising places!

And to be fair, poor Portugal seems absolutely overrun with us foreigners -we’re like an invading species of plant! - so me not adding to that will be no great loss. 😉

I’ll likely still keep learning Portuguese as I’ve really grown to like the language. It really made this trip so much better being able to (mostly) understand people.

The only down side really is that my “I’m moving to Portugal plan” has been going on for nearly two years. So…I have to find another plan! 😳

Vale, amigos, that is all this Señor wrote for the Algarve! Tomorrow we make a run for the border (I always wanted to say that) and leave Portugal behind.

Today we went to Silves. There was not all that much to see, but the cathedral was pretty, and ML enjoyed the availability of public loos and ample free parking. It is really the leeetle things in life, de verdad?
