Amigos, yesterday was a leeetle bittersweet. We said ‘hola’ to a pair of lovely Eeeenglish friends who we knew from when we used to live here, had a nice visit, but then had to say ‘Adios’ only a couple hours later. This is the part that can be triste, sad, about never staying in one place for long.
Then we had a very deleeecious meal in the sunshine on the terrace at home. 20C in January: ojala que bueno!
Finally we visited the seaside town of Conil for the sunset. Conil has always been a favorite as it has preserved some of its fisherman past and has always had part of its very large beach be cow and dog friendly.
Pues, amigos, I am sorry to say that Conil has gone to the dark side: impressive fish sculptures removed, cows contained in paddocks instead of roaming the fields, and - the worst in mi opinion - all beaches are now NO DOGS.
Sí,si, in wintertime plenty of people break the no dog law and enjoy the beach with their canine friends. But it is sad to see even the most wild and free places ‘tourist ruled’ to death.
And dios mio, what did the poor tuna sculptures do to be put in the bin? It is a real shame to forget why a beautiful leeetle town existed in the first place, to feeesh the majestic fish!
Bueno, I must get off my soapbox because ML reminds me that I too am a tourist and technically part of the problem. To which u say, “Pfft! I am a citizen of the world and a proud native of Andalusia! I am no tourist!”
And now ML must feed me a calming cookie before I start protesting on the beaches and get arrested for being somewhere I should not be. Ojalà!
