The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

she should have leashed her dog and walked on, not thrown a kong, just show me one dog who wouldn't have run after it :)
Yes, exactly why I wasn't too hot and bothered about 'making' Carbon not play. Throw a Kong, reap the consequences...which in this case was a crazy happy dog chasing it down. :D

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Perfect. :giggl:

Carbon is such a darling I suspect she was a little jealous of his model behaviour. Dominant my arse.
Oh no, her dog is nearly perfection when it comes to obeying very precise commands and you know Carbon - more enthusiasm than actual training at this point. However, Carbon has twice now tempted the Dobie away from said commands and I think it ticks the lady off. Maybe she just doesn't like that her girl is so swayed by the charms of a Spanish gentleman dog.

but the woman turns to me and says down her nose: "He's very DOMINANT, isn't he? I guess you'll have to start training him."
How dare she! Carbon is the perfect Spanish gentleman. He was lovely with my two and didn’t show any sign of dominance at all!

It sounds as if Carbon behaved impeccably as usual, responding when you wanted him to. He could probably teach her dog a thing or two!

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Love it! :cwl:
Perhaps Emily should have replied, “You know, I think you’re right! Just the other day I found him online using my credit card to buy some pretty pricey snacks, and today I walked in to find he’d locked away all my things. Then, when I opened the door to take him on a walk, he pressed a button and a snack appeared!”.

It is so disheartening when someone casts judgement on your dog. Especially when you’ve put in so much hard work. I am constantly amazed that people think it’s quite okay to pass such judgement. It really is, after all, passing judgement on you. I guess it’s their way of saying what they want to say without actually saying it.

We've had the last round wee walk and have battened down the hatches for New Year's Eve. For the last five years, I've gone to dinner at a friend's house (famous Nadine and chi Fine) but this year she is in Munich so it's just Carbon and me. I'm actually happy about this as dinner out would have meant walking through the missile zone across the old town afterwards. Frankly that always scares me and I wouldn't have liked anything to scare Carbon either. So far he's solid as a rock with fireworks and I'd like him to stay that way!

My apartment, though right on the street, is a 16th century concoction with 2.5 foot deep walls and the street outside is narrow and not great for setting off the bigger fireworks: we'll be snug as a bug in a rug in here.

For anyone not acquainted with Germany's crazy pyromania on New Year's Eve, suffice it to say that news reports on the 1st are usually filled with tales of someone - or several someones - losing a hand or at least a couple pesky fingers. Private individuals buy arsenals that normally would be put on by mid-sized cities elsewhere in Europe. I'm not kidding - I've been in Cannes, Florence and Venice for New Year's and the town-sponsored spectaculars were puny in comparison to German everyman madness.

Here in Regensburg, they go off across the old town (where I live), especially along the river. There will be a smattering starting 10-ish and then from midnight until at least 2am. Tomorrow the poor street sweepers will be working in droves to clean up all the left over paper, wires and un-detonated mini bombs.

Randomly found on YouTube, here's last year in front of the Regensburg cathedral, about a 3 minute walk from my place and why I wasn't ever really keen on walking home after dinner out.

And a prettier version from across the river which shows the extent of fireworks going on over the whole of the medieval old town. Again, these are just private people setting them off, not anything organised by the town.

Hope you all and your pups have a no-stress, safe and fun New Year's...no matter how you decide to celebrate! :cancan:

Blimey! Looks like the town is being bombed in your videos! Stay safe everyone!
My first New Year's in Regensburg, I had a lovely little holiday rental that had big windows in all rooms - kitchen, living and bedrooms - that overlooked the river. When the fireworks started directly outside my windows, I thought it was amazing. Front row seat! But after about 10 minutes you couldn't see anything for the smoke and the windows were rattling so bad I was afraid they would crack. I assumed it would got on for 15-20 minutes and be done. Nope. It went on and on and on and on until about 3am. Poor Brogan - he didn't really have an issue with fireworks until that night did him in.

They've started up a bit already outside tonight, but Carbon has already gone to bed and I think he will be wholly ignorant of any shenanigans going on outside. I don't want to jinx anything, but that pup seems bombproof when it comes to noise. :D

We had New Year in Heidelberg last year - Armageddon!

But we were in a posh restaurant by the river and watched the fireworks from the terrace, it was totally magical.

This short film is watched by all Germans on New Year’s Eve - I’d never heard of it till my son went to live there. The article also talks about the fireworks. All though Germany they buy them and carry them in backpacks on trams and buses - huge rockets and mortars included

Dinner for One - Miss Sophie is a German institution! I've sat through it six times now. There was a good article in The Guardian how it will be (was?) shown for the first time ever in the UK this year. Germans think it is very famous in the UK, but though it is in English with UK actors, it was filmed in Germany.
